Shamar Joseph was born in the Guyanese village of Baracara on August 31, 1999, and plays as a right-arm fast bowler with the West Indies team. He was born in a family that was already facing financial problems, and to make his dreams come true, Joseph's parents sharpened his bowling skills by making fruit balls for his practice. Later on, he left learning cricket and started working as a security guard and a labourer to support his family. But because of his family and his future wife's support, he started playing cricket again and made it through the West Indies team.

Shamar Joseph follows the Christian religion, and he comes from a Seventh-day Adventist Christian family based out of the Guyanese village of Baracara. His family instilled in him strict religious values and beliefs, which he follows till now. Earlier, he was not allowed to play cricket on Saturday and had to go to church as it was not allowed in his religious beliefs. Apart from this, he does not believe in any caste system, and his values are shaped by his culture.
