Krafton Introduces Promotion-Relegation in New BMSD 2026 Format: Here’s How It Works

BMSD 2026 is India's most important BGMI tournament after the mid-season break. The third official tournament of the KIE cycle is not only about its 1 crore INR prize pool but also about confirming the qualification of Indian teams for the international events to follow: BMIC and PMGC.

Battlegrounds Mobile India Showdown 2026 is yet again a closed-door, invite-only tournament. All the participating teams will earn their selection based on their performance over the last season across BGIS, BMPS, and KIE rankings.

No online registrations will be opened for this event. That being said, the BMSD 2026 format sees many major overhauls, and is set to make this edition of the tournament more competitive than ever before.

How the BMSD 2026 Format Will Work

Krafton India Esports has officially released the BMSD 2026 format, and it will feature the Promotion and Relegation system for the very first time. 48 of the best BGMI teams will feature in this official Krafton India Esports tournament.

The tournament will be played in five stages: Qualifiers, Upper Bracket and Lower Bracket Stages, Semifinals, Last Chance, and Grand Finals. Below, you will find a detailed breakdown of all the BMSD 2026 Stages:

Qualifiers

The BMSD 2026 qualifiers will be played between September 22 and 30. All 48 teams will participate in the qualifiers and play 18 matches each over 3 weeks. They will be divided into 3 groups of 16 teams each.

Each week, the teams will play 6 matches each across 3 days. With a promotion and relegation system enforced, the teams will be able to move up and down different groups after every week based on their performance.

While the exact number of teams qualifying to the next BMSD stage is not yet revealed, we predict the top 8 qualifiers to be directly playing the Semifinals. The seeding distribution will be revealed later by Krafton.

Upper Bracket Qualifiers

The BMSD 2026 Upper Bracket Qualifiers will see 16 teams (placed 9th to 24th in the qualifiers). 18 matches will be played over 3 days, October 1-4. The top 6 teams will move into the semis, while the rest will head to the lower Bracket.

Lower Bracket Qualifiers

This phase will be played between October 4-6. 18 matches will be played over 3 days, and only 10 teams from here will move into the Semis.

Semifinals

24 teams will compete in the BMSD 2026 Semifinals from October 8 to 11. The division goes like 6 teams from the upper bracket, 10 teams from the lower bracket, and the top 8 seeded teams from qualifiers. It is expected to be played as a LAN event in Hyderabad.

Teams will be divided into 3 groups and made to play double round-robin matches. The top 8 move to the grand finals, while the rest play Last Chance.

Last Chance

16 BMSD teams will play 12 matches over 2 days between October 12 and 13, 2026. Only the top 8 teams will qualify for the BMSD 2026 grand finals, while the rest will be eliminated.

Grand Finals

16 teams will play the BMSD 2026 Grand Finals between October 16 and 18. It will be a full-fledged LAN event in Hyderabad with a live crowd. It will crown India's new BGMI champion and lock in the 8 Indian teams for BMIC 2026.

Overall, the BMSD 2026 format is a huge improvement from the previous editions. The stages are well scheduled, and all teams will have enough chance to make it to the final 16.
