BGMI Transfers in Turmoil: Jonathan Gaming's Saga Exposes Old Cracks

BGMI Transfers in Turmoil

Summary

  • Jonathan Gaming's fallout from Godlike Esports has exposed some cracks in BGMI transfers.
  • Jonathan Gaming is going to announce its new team in this transfer window.
  • Check how Jonathan's saga has highlighted the broader gap in the BGMI transfers.

Jonathan Gaming, the face of BGMI Esports, has been headlining the current transfer window. Following the end of BGIS 2026, the star fragger announced to part ways with his long-standing organisation Hero Xtreme Godlike on a live stream. Consequently, everything he said was over-analysed, and what could have been a smooth transfer transitioned into a full-blown soap opera for the community.

Jonathan announced to start a fresh journey with a new team on his livestream, breaking his 4 and a half years long partnership with Godlike. The veteran subtly expressed his dissatisfaction, including the time he was benched in BGIS 2026. While the community was fine with his reactions, behind-the-scenes talks and org reactions overdramatised this transfer.

The Drama of Jonathan's Split From Godlike

Jonathan's exit was going smoothly until Godlike's owner, Kronten, decided to speak his feelings on a stream. Following Jonathan's stream, Kronten agreed to have communication gaps with Jonathan over the past 4-5 months, as reported by LetsGrowSports.

Kronten vowed never to reveal the reasons on an emotional note. He also added that Jonathan won't be given a farewell post as the org will always have a place for him.

The drama further escalated when insider information related to ownership stakes was leaked to the public. This disappointed the Godlike management to a great extent.

Godlike's Chain of Mishaps

Godlike Esports, despite being one of the elite gaming organisations of India, has had a messed-up transfer history. The org was accused of poaching players for the first time in 2022 when two players, Viru and Gill, left X Spark abruptly between tournaments.

Another instance of Godlike's mishap was visible when they didn't manage to board 4 of their players to the 2025 CODM World Championships in Poland. The org then had to partner with S8UL to send a new lineup to the event.

Godlike, along with S8UL, are two of the biggest Indian Esports orgs with international presence. S8UL won the prestigious Esports Content Group of the year at the Esports Awards four times between 2022 and 2025. S8UL has had a decent share of its past management struggles, but it has improved over time. Godlike, on the other hand, still seems to be struggling to get its affairs in order.

The Curious Case of BGMI Transfers

Krafton implemented the BGMI Transfer Window in 2025 to monitor and make the process of player transfers more transparent and professional. The BGMI transfer window is opened twice a year. The first window opens between October and November, while the second one is between April and May.

This was done to obstruct the illegal poaching of players ahead of official tournaments. It is meant for fuelling stability, professionalism, and strengthening lineups. In the case of Jonathan and Godlike, this proved to be more of an obligation than anything else.

Sources like Letsgrowesports revealed that Godlike knew about Jonathan's intentions to leave the organisation after BGIS 2026, as early as November 2025. The lock-in period stopped an immediate transfer, which could have been beneficial for both parties.

The Broader Problem

While the BGMI Transfer window stopped poaching issues, some underlying factors cannot be overlooked:

Backdoor Negotiations

Victorus Sumus captain Owais recently accused some orgs for behind-the-scenes politics in an attempt to poach his players. Although the veteran didn't take names, his comments testified that the transfer window is not the solution to the core transfer chaos, which needs more clarity and open communication.

Lack of agents

Most of the established Esports industry in the West has the presence of agents who act as a buffer in both emotional and professional clashes between players and orgs. It's 2026, and BGMI transfers still lack this mediator, which is amplifying player-org disputes.

While it is undeniably an emotional moment for both parties, the veil of professionalism cannot be subdued. The Indian Esports ecosystem is still developing, and player-organisation public relationships need to be taken seriously.
