Aston Villa Defender Suffers Gruesome Head Injury After Collision With Teammate

Aston Villa defender Lucas Digne suffered a gruesome head injury after colliding with teammate Emiliano Martinez while defending a cross against Everton tonight. The initial look of the injury was scarier as the bruise appeared like a golf ball-sized lump. Many feared that Digne would be subbed off, but the French international chose to continue and also helped Villa clinch a hard-fought draw against the Merseyside outfit. Lucas played the entirety of ninety minutes, where he made four defensive contributions, including crucial tackles and accelerated runs from the left flank.

Lucas Digne signed a new contract with Villa until 2028

The French left back joined Villa back in January 2022 and, since then, has been a stalwart on the left flank, making over a century of appearances for the Birmingham outfit. Amidst rumours of the French star heading to Old Trafford this summer, he decided to continue at Villa. Apart from that, he agreed to a lower wage to help Villa comply with UEFA's Financial Rules. Digne has already won the La Liga and Ligue 1 so far

The French international is one of the very few players to have won some of the most coveted trophies in his career so far for both his club and country. After rising through the ranks of Lille, he made a move to the French capital and was part of the PSG side that won the Ligue 1. After serving a short loan period at Roma, he headed towards Camp Nou and won the La Liga with FC Barcelona. He then switched his allegiance to Goodison Park after joining Everton and in 2022, made a switch to Aston Villa.

Internationally, he has been an asset for the Les Blues side, winning the UEFA Nations League and the FIFA U20 World Cup. He was also part of the France team that finished third in the recently concluded Nations League after a defeat to Spain in the semi finals.
