Mexico Announces 23-Man Squad Ahead of CONCACAF Nations League

Mexico have their eyes set on winning the first CONCACAF Nations League in their history. The CONCACAF Nations League semi-finalists in the 2024-2025 season are Mexico, Canada, USA and Panama.

The core of the squad looks a bit similar to what it did in the 2024 version of the Copa America. However there are a few surprising exclusions and inclusions as well as Mexico manager Javier Aguirre looks to change and experiment.

Aguirre has finally decided not to call up goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa who has given his all for Mexico being their first choice keeper over the years. This signifies a crucial passing of the torch to other talents and other players. Another big name Hirving Lozano has not been called up as well.

Perhaps the most surprising exclusion would be not calling up Club America’s topscorer Henry Martin who has been his team’s leading goalscorer in their previous three title runs. As opposed to a surprising exclusion, the most surprising inclusions are Efrain Alvarez and CF Pachuca goalkeeper Carlos Moreno.

A crucial advantage for Mexico is that they have an in-form trio of forwards at their hands. The trio is Raul Jimenez playing for Fulham who has amassed 15 goal contributions in 30 appearances across all competitions. Then there’s Santiago Gimenez on loan at AC Milan from Feyenoord who has 24 goal contributions in 28 appearances across all competitions. Lastly Julian Quinones playing for Al Qadisah who has 27 goal contributions in 24 appearances across all competitions.

Mexico’s Road To Final

Mexico will face Canada in the CONCACAF Nations League semi-finals and will then face either USA or Panama in the finals.
