The Australian right-back is rooted in an athletic family where both her parents, Scott Carpenter and Belinda, are physical education teachers. She and Jeremy, her elder brother, were both fully engaged in various sports activities from a young age. She was a very talented athlete, especially in running, and slowly she switched to football. She needed to travel to Sydney and Canberra a lot to participate in top-level competitions from their small town, Cowra. The parents made the big decision to move to Sydney for their children's future in sports. When Ellie was 12, she with her mother, and brother moved to Sydney. Father stayed back in their hometown to support them financially. At that age, she was clueless about everything, and after some time, she became very good at football. She got all the facilities at the Westfields Sports High School. Ellie was doing her best, and she got the golden opportunity to represent her nation. She got selected for the Under-17 team and made her debut with the team when she was just 14 years old. Later, she also got selected for the Under-20 squad. Western Sydney Wanderers was her first club, which she joined in 2015, and she started to play soon. In her debut season, she appeared in 12 matches in the W-League.
