The game between Atletico Madrid vs Celta Vigo ended as a 1-1 draw at the Wanda Metropolitano on Saturday with Diego Simeone’s side being a man down. During the early moments of the game, Pablo Barrios was shown a red card after he fouled Pablo Duran. Things were difficult for the Rojiblancos to cope with as Iago Aspas scored the opener from the spot. In the 81st minute, Alexander Sorloth scored the equaliser to help Atletico Madrid salvage a draw.

In their 12 league encounters with Celta Vigo, the Rojiblancos have never lost. At the top level, they had defeated the Galician team seven times in a row, which was their greatest winning run. The side has also kept a clean sheet in each of their last four La Liga games.

Just into the game, Pablo Barrios was sent off after a sliding tackle on Pablo Duran. He was initially given a yellow but VAR intervened and it was turned into a red card. Within the first 10 minutes of the game, Celta Vigo’s Marco Alonso had an opportunity from the left side of the six-yard of the box but missed on the target.

The first half ended with Atletico Madrid’s heavy dominance on the ball but were not clinical enough in front of the goal. They had seven shots on goal and out of them one was a big chance which they squandered.

At the start of the second half, Celta Vigo controlled the ball well and moved it around. Around the 58th minute, Antoine Griezmann had a good run at the corner of the box but was well tackled by a Celta Vigo defender. There were appeals for a penalty after Starfelt tackled Alvarez inside the penalty box but the referee denied it.

Around the 65th minute, Celta Vigo won a penalty after Le Normand brought down Borja Iglesias inside the penalty box. Taking on the chance from the spot, Iago Aspas scored his first goal in the Wanda Metropolitano. Alexander Sorloth levelled the score for the Rojiblancos. His right-footed shot from the centre of the box to the bottom left corner after an assist from defender Jose Gimenez.
