Summary

  • Juventus win away from home in the pre-season friendlies.
  • Andrea Cambiaso shine for Juventus with a brace.
  • Mats Hummels bid adieu to Dortmund as he retires from professional football.

Borussia Dortmund went head-to-head against Juventus in the Club Friendlies ahead of the next season on the 10th of August 2025 at 15:30 GMT. The Dortmund vs Juventus clash took us to the Home of the Yellow Wall, Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund, and after a thrilling encounter, the Italian side emerged victorious. Juventus got the game underway, and even though it was a friendly match, both the fans and players were pumped up for the match. Juventus displayed a very aggressive attitude, and they made some tackles that gifted the home side a good number of free kicks in the attacking half. Dortmund, on the other hand, pressed hard, won the ball, passed it around crisply, and continued to attack. In the 16th minute, Kalulu won a clearance and provided a cross inside the box, which was tapped in by Cambiaso, who scored the opener and made it look easy.

Just a minute later, it was an emotional moment at the Signal Iduna Park as the club legend, Mats Hummels, was subbed off, marking an end to a glittery career as a Black and Yellow. Later, as far as teamwork was concerned, Dortmund had the upper edge. Juventus were unable to impress as they made some very stagnant moves, which did not bear any fruit. Both teams tried their might to end the half with a flourish, but the defensive unit of either side remained strong, and at the end of the first half, the score was 0-1. In the second half, Yildiz delivered a ball from the middle of the box to Andrea Cambiaso, who was at the right side of the post, and took a shot from that angle to double the lead and delight for the Italian side. Later, it was raining substitutions, and both sides experimented with their players by subbing of almost all the players. Maximilian Beier, the substitute, scored the goal for the home side, providing them with a moment of relief. Since then, the game was dominated in the midfield, and at full-time, the score was 1-2 in favour of Juventus. Here are the Borussia Dortmund vs Juventus Player Ratings.

Goalkeeper

Gregor Kobel - 5.5/10

Kobel could have done better to stop Juventus from scoring the first and second goals. Provided some long balls to Adeyemi to initiate some counterattacks from the left.

Defenders

Mats Hummels - NA

The club legend, after playing 16 minutes in the game, was subbed off as he tied his boots, marking an end to his professional football career and a last dance in Black and Yellow.

Waldemar Anton - 6.5/10

Moved higher up the pitch and won free kicks on the right wing of the attacking third. In the defence, he made some well-timed tackles when the opponents counter-attacked.

Ramy Bensebaini - 6/10

Was decent on the left flank of the defensive half and provided great support to Svensson and Adeyemi. Was the source of a significant number of long balls that came from the backline.

Midfielders

Julian Ryerson - 6/10

Took some good free kicks, which put pressure on the opponents. Had acres of space in the midfield but was unable to capitalise on them. Was struggling in winning duels and could have had a better performance.

Pascal Groß - 6/10

Made a bad foul for which he received a yellow card, which limited his game. Attempted to cross around half a dozen times, and every time the ball went to either the opponents or to no man's land.

Jobe Bellingham - 6.5/10

Jobe was one of the very few players who had a decent game for Dortmund. He was very good in the middle third, where he covered almost every blade of grass. Had a pretty positive stat overall in the match.

Marcel Sabitzer - 6/10

He was pretty average in the match and did not have much impact whatsoever. The only positive stat would be the 88% passing accuracy the player maintained.

Daniel Svensson - 7.5/10

Made some overlapping runs on the left wing when Adeyemi moved forward with the ball. The heat map of Svensson displays the effort put in by the player for the team in the flank, be it offensively or defensively. Had a great game and was arguably the best player for the home side in the game.

Forward

Serhou Guirassy - 6.5/10

Everything he was hitting, somehow, did not find the back of the net during the match. Was unable to contribute in the match other than putting pressure on the backline, and was kept relatively silent throughout the match.

Karim Adeyemi - 6/10

Adeyemi was very active on the left flank, winning duels, intercepting the ball, and making some accelerated runs towards the attacking third. Withdrew back to the defence to defend as a single unit.

Substitutes

Niklas Sule - 6.5/10

Came in as a substitute for Mats Hummels; however, just ahead of the break, he sustained an injury and was subbed off as a precautionary measure.

Yan Couto - 6/10

Maximilian Beier - 7.5/10

Scored the compensatory goal for his side, providing his fans with a moment of delight.

Salih Ozcan - 6.5/10

Felix Nmecha - 7/10

Had a delightful few minutes in the game as he excelled in duels and interceptions.

Julian Brandt - 7/10

Reinforced the right wing by making some initiatives to attack.

Filippo Mane - 6/10

Cole Campbell - 6/10

Almugera Kabar - 6/10

Manager

Niko Kovac - 6/10

His team had everything: coordination, teamwork, and determination to score. All these aspects looked fine until it came to the final third, where his team was missing their scoring boot. Tested all the players, and though his team tried their best, had to be on the losing side in front of the home fans.

Goalkeeper

Michele Di Gregorio - 6/10

Though the opponents came to attack during multiple instances, the keeper barely had anything to do and was not put to the test much.

Defenders

Lloyd Kelly - 6/10

Made three clearances, had a good passing accuracy, and provided 4 long balls, out of which 2 of them found his teammate. Did not have a workload in the defence and had a decent day.

Bremer - 6/10

He was decent throughout the minutes played, with 3 interceptions and clearances each. Had a solid passing accuracy of 95% and won one of the two duels involved. Was subbed off just after the break.

Pierre Kalulu - 7/10

Provided a quality cross inside the box in the 16th minute, which paved the way for the opener for Juventus. Was alert and kept Adeyemi silent whenever he made his runs from the wings.

Midfielders

Andrea Cambiaso - 8.5/10

Cambiaso was present in the box at the right place at the right time as he tapped in the long ball from the midfield to break the deadlock with ease. Doubled the advantage early in the second half by blasting a powerful shot at goal from a tight angle.

Joao Mario - 6.5/10

He was seen everywhere on the right flank, moving higher up the pitch to contribute offensively and withdrawing back to the defence to help his team defensively.

Manuel Locatelli - 6.5/10

Locatelli was the underrated player of the game. Though his name was not celebrated in the game, his silent contribution in the form of dispossessing the opponents and providing long balls helped Juventus strengthen their attack.

Khephren Thuram - 7/10

Provided some through balls to the attacking third and occasionally took his chance at goal, which, however, he missed by some distance as most of it was overhit. Though the player did not find the back of the net, he had a pivotal role in piling pressure on Dortmund.

Francisco Conceicao - 7/10

The player was visibly frustrated when Dortmund were having the upper hand in the game during the initial minutes and made a rash foul for which he was shown a yellow card.

Kenan Yildiz - 7.2/10

Made an early foul for which he was booked by the referee with a yellow card. As the game progressed, Yildiz won duels, made clearances and interceptions, assisted the second goal, and had a good share of contributions in the game.

Forward

Jonathan David- 6.5/10

The forward was seen more or less contributing as an AMF rather than a proper number nine striker. Won a good number of duels and provided key passes to the wingers, who in turn bolstered the attacks.

Manager

Igor Tudor - 6.5/10

The gaffer had a pretty delightful day. Though his side did not have the upper edge in the game and felt like they lacked teamwork, they capitalised on the key moments and managed to grab a win.
