Juventus 2-2 Rennes Player Ratings: Lucumí's Winner Ruled Out By VAR As Juventus Settle For A Point With Rennes in Europa League

Matchday 3 in the UEFA Europa League 2026/27 league phase saw Juventus host Rennes, with both sides looking to maintain their unbeaten run in this prestigious European club competition. There was little to separate the two teams, who went toe-to-toe in the first half.

Rennes did have the better xG, while Juventus had more possession in the first 45 minutes. Juventus opened the scoring in just the 5th minute through Zeki Çelik, who was set up nicely with a threaded ball from striker Nick Woltemade.

Stade Rennais hit back in the 15th minute, as Mahamadou Nagida's cross was headed across the area by right-back Bryan Reynolds, for Mousa Tamari to tap it past Vicario to score his first goal of the season.

The visitors were awarded a penalty in the 40th minute as Douglas Luiz seemed to handle Nagida's bullet strike, resulting in the referee pointing to the spot. Boulaye Dia stepped up and put it on the wrong side of Vicario's dive to give Rennes some extra motivation ahead of the second half.

The Old Lady got their leveller in the 67th minute, when Teun Koopmeiners's free kick was headed straight into the extended arm of Bryan Reynolds, resulting in a penalty. Nick Woltemade slotted it home to keep Juve's chances alive in this game.

Jhon Lucumí thought he had won it for Juventus in the 88th minute, but his goal was ruled offside by the VAR after a brief check, much to the relief of the Rennes players.
