Leeds United vs Chelsea Player Ratings: Calvert-Lewin 9/10 Rated as The Whites Humbled the Blues in a Dominating 3-1 Victory

Summary

  • Dominic Calvert-Lewin was the man of the match for his goal and dominant performance.
  • Tosin Adarabioyo had a difficult game, making a critical error that led to a goal.

What a performance from Leeds United, nobody would have believed what happened tonight. The Club World Cup winners Chelsea got humbled by Leeds in a dominating fashion. They completely dismantled a disorganised Chelsea side at Elland Road, securing a stunning 3-1 victory. The home side came out of the blocks flying. They looked sharper, hungrier, and more coherent from the first whistle. It felt like they had a point to prove in this Premier League clash.

The early pressure paid off almost immediately. Jaka Bijol nodded home from a corner inside six minutes, and you could just feel the confidence surging through the Leeds ranks. Chelsea, on the other hand, looked shell-shocked. They couldn't string passes together and were constantly hounded by the energetic press. Before they could even get a foothold in the match, Ao Tanaka doubled the lead with a strike from distance just before halftime. A defensive error from Tosin Adarabioyo played a huge part and it was a moment he'll want to forget.

The second half saw Chelsea pull one back through substitute Pedro Neto, offering a brief glimmer of hope. But it was short-lived. Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who was an absolute menace all evening, sealed the deal with a third goal for Leeds United. It was a deserved result for a team that executed their game plan to perfection, while Chelsea have a lot to think about on the journey back to London. Chelsea Player Ratings vs Leeds United

Check out the Chelsea player ratings for the Leeds United vs Chelsea fixture.

Goalkeeper

Robert Sánchez - 5.0: A tough night for the keeper. He conceded three goals and wasn't helped by his defence. Made a couple of decent saves, but his error leading to a shot summed up a nervy performance. He looked a bit shaky under pressure from the Leeds attack. From our perspective, his confidence seemed to drain as the match went on.

Defenders

Marc Cucurella - 5.5: He put in a shift and made a team-high seven clearances. However, he struggled to contain the opposition's wide players. We noticed he was dribbled past on a key occasion and offered little going forward. An okay performance but nothing special in a defence that was all over the place.

Tosin Adarabioyo - 4.0: A really poor showing. His error leading directly to a goal was a catastrophic moment for the team. While he made a high volume of clearances, that critical mistake overshadowed everything else. He also lost possession ten times. It was a performance to forget, plain and simple.

Benoît Badiashile - 4.5: Lasted only 45 minutes before being hooked at halftime. He looked completely off the pace and was part of a central defence that was breached twice in the first half. He struggled with the physicality of the Leeds forwards. You just can't last at this level with that kind of display.

Trevoh Chalobah - 5.5: He played the full match and had an impressive 97% pass accuracy. But what does that matter when your team ships three goals? He lost eight of his twelve duels, which is a telling statistic. He was tidy on the ball but lacked the defensive steel needed on the day.

Midfielders

Enzo Fernández - 6.0: The captain tried to get a grip on the game but it was a losing battle. He created a couple of chances but lost possession a staggering 21 times. That's just far too high. It was a mixed bag, showing flashes of quality but ultimately being overwhelmed by the Leeds midfield.

Andrey Santos - 5.5: A quiet and ineffective 77 minutes. He kept his passing neat and tidy but had very little impact on the game in an attacking sense. He was largely a passenger as the game passed him by. We expected more presence from him in the middle of the park.

João Pedro - 6.5: One of the few who tried to create something. He managed three key passes, showing some ingenuity. However, he was also guilty of losing the ball too often and his final product was lacking. A flicker of creativity in a dim attacking display.

Jamie Gittens - 7.0: Provided the assist for Chelsea's only goal. Looked direct and was one of the few players willing to run at the opposition. His substitution after an hour was a bit of a surprise to us, as he was a rare bright spark for the Blues.

Estêvão - 5.0: A frustrating 45 minutes for the youngster. He drew fouls but also lost the ball far too frequently and picked up a yellow card. He was replaced at halftime, which tells you everything you need to know about his impact, or lack thereof.

Forwards

Liam Delap - 5.5: He had one shot on target but was otherwise isolated and ineffective. He struggled to make any real impression against a resolute Leeds defence. He worked hard but never really looked like scoring before being substituted.

Substitutes

Pedro Neto - 7.5: Came on at halftime and scored Chelsea's goal. An instant impact. He was direct and gave his team a brief moment of hope.

Malo Gusto - 5.5: Replaced Badiashile at the break. The defence didn't look much more solid with him in it.

Cole Palmer - 6.0: Got into a great position but missed a clear-cut chance. Looked to get involved but couldn't find the decisive touch.

Alejandro Garnacho - 6.5: Looked lively after coming on, creating a chance. Brought some much-needed energy.

Marc Guiu - N/A: Came on late and didn't have enough time to make an impact.

Manager

E. Maresca - 4.5: His team looked tactically naive and unprepared for Leeds' intensity. The defensive setup was shambolic, and individual errors cost them dearly. While his substitutes made a small impact, the game was already lost due to the poor start. A very bad day at the office.

Goalkeeper

Lucas Perri - 6.5: He only conceded once and made a crucial save when called upon. His distribution was a bit wayward, but his primary job is to stop shots, and he did that effectively. A solid, if unspectacular, outing for the keeper. He commanded his area well enough.

Defenders

Pascal Struijk - 7.5: A rock at the back. He was strong in the tackle and made several important interceptions. He read the game beautifully and was a key part of why the Chelsea attack was so toothless for long periods. A very commanding performance.

Joe Rodon - 7.0: Did his job with minimal fuss. He made six clearances and won his duels. He was positionally sound and gave the Chelsea forwards very little space to operate in. An understated but crucial part of the defensive unit.

Jaka Bijol - 8.5: A fantastic performance. He set the tone with the opening goal, a powerful header from a corner. Defensively, he was immense, making nine clearances. A true warrior's performance at both ends of the pitch. What stood out to us was his desire.

Midfielders

Jayden Bogle - 6.5: Provided an assist but his decision-making was questionable at times, getting caught offside twice. He worked hard down the flank but lacked a bit of refinement in the final third. A decent contribution overall before being subbed.

Gabriel Gudmundsson - 8.0: What an engine. He was everywhere. He won an incredible 11 duels and made seven tackles, completely dominating his side of the pitch. He also contributed to the attack with two key passes. An all-action display.

Ethan Ampadu - 7.5: The captain led by example in the heart of midfield. He was calm on the ball and relentless without it. He broke up play effectively and shielded his back four brilliantly. A true leader's performance against his former club.

Anton Stach - 8.5: The creative hub of the team. He delivered the assist for the opening goal and created four chances in total. His set-piece delivery was a constant threat. The yellow card was the only minor negative in an otherwise superb display of creativity and vision.

Ao Tanaka - 8.0: Scored a crucial second goal with a great strike from outside the box. He was a bundle of energy in midfield, linking play and pressing effectively. His goal gave Leeds the cushion they needed to control the game. A fantastic 67 minutes.

Forwards

Dominic Calvert-Lewin - 9.0: Absolutely unplayable. Our man of the match. He scored the decisive third goal, won 11 duels, and bullied the Chelsea defenders all game. His hold-up play was exceptional, bringing his teammates into the game constantly. A complete centre-forward's performance and the highest-rated player on the pitch.

Lukas Nmecha - 6.5: He worked tirelessly but missed a big chance that could have made the scoreline even more emphatic. He lacked the clinical edge of his strike partner, but his movement created space for others. An energetic but frustrating evening for him.

Substitutes

Noah Okafor - 6.5: Came on and immediately tested the keeper. Looked sharp and maintained the team's attacking intensity.

Ilia Gruev - 6.0: Brought on to provide fresh legs and see the game out. Did his job effectively.

Joël Piroe - N/A: Late substitute with little time to influence the match.

James Justin - N/A: Came on in the final few minutes to shore up the defence.

Sebastiaan Bornauw - N/A: A stoppage-time substitution to waste time.

Manager

D. Farke - 9.0: A tactical masterclass. His game plan worked to perfection. His team pressed with incredible intensity, forced errors, and were clinical in their finishing. He identified Chelsea's weaknesses and exploited them ruthlessly. An outstanding managerial performance.
