Man United vs Wolves Player Ratings as Old Trafford Erupts as VAR Drama Ends 1-1 After Late Twist

Man United vs Wolves Player Ratings

Summary

  • The match between Manchester United and Wolverhampton Wanderers ended in a 1-1 draw.
  • José Sá was the man of the match for his heroic goalkeeping performance.
  • Hee-chan Hwang was the worst performer, struggling to impact the game for Wolves.

Joshua Zirkzee made quite a comeback at Old Trafford with a stunning strike from outside the box in the 27th minute. The Red Devils looked like they were in total control, cruising towards the three points, but then Ladislav Krejci rose highest from a corner just before halftime and completely flipped the script with an equalizer. Just like that, what looked like a comfortable win disappeared into thin air, and you could feel the frustration ripple through the stadium.

The second half was all Man United pressing, all Wolves defending, and specifically, all about José Sá being absolutely unbeatable. Benjamin Sesko hit the post, had decent half-chances that should've gone in, and forced save after save from the Wolves keeper. It was one of those game were nothing would go in for United. Wolves held firm for a precious away point, and while United will be absolutely gutted about dropping two points, they had plenty of chances to win it. A frustrating 1-1 draw it is for the home side, and fans, whether they like it or not, and Sá was the star of the show. Here are Sportsdunia's Man United vs Wolves player ratings.

Joshua Zirkzee Provides Early Breakthrough in Man United Player Ratings

Check out the Man United player ratings for the Man United vs Wolves fixture.

Goalkeeper

Senne Lammens - 6.5: We noticed he made a few important saves, especially one from a Hugo Bueno shot. He couldn't do much about the well-placed header for the goal. He distributed the ball reasonably well, though he wasn't tested as much as his counterpart. A solid, if unspectacular, performance from the young keeper. He commanded his area okay but looked a little hesitant on the corner they conceded from.

Defenders

Diogo Dalot - 6.5: A typical energetic performance from Dalot down the right flank. He got forward when he could and delivered a great cross for a headed chance. However, from our perspective, he was a bit loose in possession at times, losing the ball 12 times. Defensively he was okay, but not outstanding. Had a header that went off target himself. An average day at the office.

Lisandro Martínez - 7.0: Wearing the captain's armband, the Argentine was a composed presence at the back. His 94% pass accuracy shows how comfortable he is on the ball, constantly trying to start attacks from deep. He was strong in his duels and read the game well for the most part. The defense as a unit will be disappointed to concede from a set-piece, but his individual performance was strong.

Luke Shaw - 7.5: What stood out to us was his creative output. He was a constant threat down the left, whipping in 10 crosses and creating three chances. One of those created a huge opportunity for Benjamin Sesko, who hit the post. Defensively, he was solid enough, winning his tackles. A very positive and influential performance from the fullback.

Ayden Heaven - 7.0: The young defender looked incredibly composed before his substitution. His passing was near-perfect, with a 97% completion rate, which is impressive under pressure. He won most of his duels and made several important recoveries. A very promising display that suggests he has a bright future. We were a little surprised to see him taken off.

Midfielders

Matheus Cunha - 6.0: A really busy but ultimately frustrating evening for Cunha. He drew five fouls, showing how tricky he was for the opposition, but he also lost possession a staggering 15 times. He seemed to be everywhere without having a decisive impact on the game. His final ball or shot was often lacking. A lot of effort with very little reward.

Joshua Zirkzee - 7.5: He lit up Old Trafford with a brilliant goal from distance in the first half. He looked sharp, confident, and was linking up play nicely. From our perspective, the decision to substitute him at halftime was completely baffling. He was United's most dangerous player and his withdrawal seemed to take some of the spark out of the attack. A great 45-minute showing.

Patrick Dorgu - 6.5: A mixed bag of a performance. He created a couple of chances and looked lively, but he also made some poor decisions and lost the ball too often. He got into good positions but the final product wasn't always there. There's clearly a talented player in there, but he needs to add more consistency to his game. Felt a bit raw today.

Casemiro - 7.5: This was a classic performance from the Brazilian. He was a dominant force in midfield, making six tackles and recovering the ball consistently. He wasn't just a destroyer either; he created two chances, including a big one. His experience and bite were crucial for United. One of the team's best performers on the day, without a doubt.

Manuel Ugarte - 6.5: A tidy and efficient performance in the middle of the park. He kept possession moving with an 84% pass accuracy and did his defensive duties diligently. He wasn't spectacular, but he provided a solid platform for the more creative players ahead of him. Subbed off in the second half as United pushed for a winner.

Forwards

Benjamin Sesko - 6.0: We genuinely feel for him. It was one of those nights. He had six shots, four on target, hit the woodwork, and missed two gilt-edged chances. On another day he could have had a hat-trick. His movement was good and he got into all the right positions, but his finishing let him down badly. A hugely frustrating outing that cost his team the win.

Substitutes

Jack Fletcher - 6.0: Replaced the goalscorer Zirkzee at halftime. Had big shoes to fill and struggled to make a similar impact on the game.

Leny Yoro - N/A: Came on for the final 15 minutes to replace Ayden Heaven.

Bendito Mantato - N/A: Was introduced alongside Yoro but didn't have enough time to influence the proceedings.

Manager

R. Amorim - 6.0: His team created enough chances to win three games, but the lack of clinical finishing is a major concern. The decision to withdraw Joshua Zirkzee at halftime felt like a strange one from our perspective, as he was the one player who had found the back of the net. Amorim failed to find a tactical solution to break down a very stubborn Wolves defence in the second half. A frustrating day for the gaffer.

Ladislav Krejčí Shines at the Back and Scores in Wolves Player Ratings

Check out the Wolves player ratings for the Man United vs Wolves fixture.

Goalkeeper

José Sá - 8.5: An absolutely heroic performance. He was the sole reason Wolves left Old Trafford with a point. He made five saves, four of which were from inside the box, including several unbelievable stops to deny Benjamin Sesko. He commanded his area, punched clear when needed, and his bravery was inspiring. An easy choice for the highest-rated player and Man of the Match. Outstanding.

Defenders

Matt Doherty - 7.0: The captain led by example with a committed and rugged defensive display. He put his body on the line, making three crucial blocked shots to deny United attackers. He was positionally sound and organized his backline well under immense pressure. A real captain's performance when his team needed it most.

Yerson Mosquera - 8.0: What a beastly performance. We noticed his stats and they were just incredible: he won 12 of his 14 duels, a 91% success rate. He also made a staggering seven tackles. He was an absolute rock at the back, seemingly winning every single ball that came near him. A colossal defensive effort that was key to earning the draw.

Ladislav Krejci - 8.0: Not only was he solid defensively, but he also provided the game's crucial moment for his team. He scored the equalizer with a powerful and well-directed header from a corner. To score at Old Trafford is special, and his goal was vital. He was a threat from set-pieces all game and did his defensive duties diligently. A fantastic all-around display.

Midfielders

Hugo Bueno - 6.0: A quiet game for Bueno, who struggled to get involved. He lost possession 12 times and his crossing was not up to scratch. He had one shot on target that was easily saved. He worked hard but lacked the quality to make a real difference on the day. A performance he will likely want to forget.

João Gomes - 6.5: A tireless worker in the heart of the midfield. His passing was neat and tidy, and he battled hard, winning five duels. He didn't offer much in an attacking sense but he did the dirty work effectively, breaking up play and protecting his back four. A disciplined and functional performance.

Jhon Arias - 7.0: All-action and full of tenacity. He was everywhere, engaging in 17 duels and making six tackles. He never gave United's midfielders a moment's peace. At times his aggression boiled over into fouls, but his energy was infectious and crucial in disrupting United's rhythm. A proper combative midfield display.

Mateus Mané - 6.0: It was a tough night for him. While he cleverly drew five fouls, he struggled in his own duels, losing eight of them. He was dispossessed and turned over the ball too often in dangerous areas. He tried to make things happen but was often crowded out or made the wrong decision. A frustrating outing.

Jackson Tchatchoua - 6.0: He had a difficult evening and picked up a yellow card for his troubles. He was dribbled past on two occasions and struggled to contain the threat of United's wide players. He worked hard for the team but was on the back foot for most of the match. His defensive contribution was necessary but not always clean.

Forwards

Hee-chan Hwang - 5.0: From our perspective, this was a performance to forget for the South Korean. He was anonymous for large parts of the game and his stats reflect that. The data points to an error leading to a goal, which is a cardinal sin. He missed two shots and just couldn't get into the game before being substituted. The worst performer on the pitch.

Tolu Arokodare - 6.0: He held the ball up at times and provided a physical presence, but he offered very little goal threat. He created a couple of half-chances for teammates but failed to test the keeper himself with his one shot. He worked hard but was ultimately well-marshalled by United's defence before being taken off.

Substitutes

Jørgen Strand Larsen - N/A: Came on for Tolu Arokodare in the 65th minute but had little service to work with.

Fer López - N/A: A late replacement for the injured Hee-chan Hwang.

Manager

R. Edwards - 7.5: He will be absolutely delighted with this result. His game plan was executed to perfection. He set his team up to be defensively solid, compact, and to frustrate United. They absorbed immense pressure and took their one big chance from a set-piece. The substitutions were sensible to see out the game. A tactical masterclass in how to get a result away from home.
