Manchester City vs Tottenham Hotspur Player Ratings

Summary

  • The game was played at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester
  • Manchester were coming after a 4-0 win over Wolves
  • Spurs won the first game 3-0 against Burnley

The Etihad Stadium geared up to host home team Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur for an exciting showdown in the second matchweek of the English Premier League. Both teams were coming after a win in their first matchweek. Spurs thrashed Burnley 3-0, whereas Man City were coming after a 4-0 win over Wolves. This was Thomas Frank's first away game as Spurs manager. Many expected this game to go in City's favour as they were the clear favourites, but Frank's masterclass shocked everyone tonight. Thomas Frank's Spurs literally dominated the game for over 80 minutes tonight. The first goal came after young lad Brennan Johnson found the back of the net. Despite being ruled out by VAR, it was later counted as legal. Trafford between the sticks was a disaster tonight as his mistake saw Palhinha double the lead. In the second half, it seemed the Spurs were more interested in finding the third goal than in City's willingness to make a comeback in the game. The match ended with Tottenham Hotspur winning the game 2-0

Here are Manchester City Player Ratings from the Manchester City vs Tottenham Hotspur match.

Goalkeeper

James Trafford - 4.5/10

The English goalkeeper recently made a move from Burnley to Etihad. It was a big nightmare for Trafford tonight after his mistake cost City the second goal, and he also looked quite unstable between the sticks.

Defenders

Rico Lewis - 6/10

The 20-year-old English right back found it difficult to keep Kudus in check as he kept making inroads from the right flank.

John Stones - 7/10

The English international tried his level best to contribute to the attack after a dull midfield performance from City.

Ruben Dias - 6/10

The Portuguese centre back had a decent outing tonight, but could have done better to avoid the two goals.

Ryan Ait Nouri - 6.5/10

The Algerian left back was unlucky to be subbed off in the 24th minute after a forced injury in his home debut at Etihad.

Midfielders

Nico Gonzalez - 7/10

The Spanish defensive midfielder had a fairly decent game, but lacked creativity in the midfield for City.

Oscar Bobb - 7/10

The Norwegian winger had a few bursts of energetic sprints. Apart from that, he was nowhere near to goal.

Rayan Cherki - 6.5/10

The French-Algerian midfielder made his way to City from Lyon. He was expected to do well after going two goals down, but he disappointed massively.

Tijjani Reijnders - 7/10

The Dutch midfielder, who joined City from AC Milan, could not make much of a difference tonight.

Omar Marmoush - 7.5/10

The Egyptian centre forward was probably the best player from City tonight. He kept pushing hard for the equaliser, but all in vain.

Strikers

Erling Haaland - 6/10

The Norwegian striker should have put the header inside the goal. In a game where City hardly created chances, he was expected to show some individual brilliance.

Nathan Ake - 6.5/10

Rodri - 6/10

Jeremy Doku - 7.5/10

Bernardo Silva - 7.5/10

Manager

Pep Guardiola - 6/10

Facing the Spurs is nothing less than a nightmare for Guardiola. The Spanish gaffer suffered a 4-0 heartbreak last time against the same opposition, and the outcome tonight was nothing different.

Here are Tottenham Hotspur Player Ratings from the Manchester City vs Tottenham Hotspur match.

Goalkeeper

Guglielmo Vicario - 8/10

Vicario was the sole reason Spurs kept a clean sheet against Man City tonight at Etihad.

Defenders

Pedro Porro - 7.5/10

Pedro Porro on the right flank is a delight to watch. Not only did he manage to keep Omar Marmoush under control, but he was also a live wire in attack.

Djed Spence - 7.5/10

Djed Spence has done pretty well to replace the injured Destiny Udogie in the left-back position. He also contributed significantly to the attack.

Micky van de Ven - 6.5/10

Van de Ven had some nervy moments in the penalty box, but Vicario stood tall to deny City from finding the back of the net.

Cristian Romero - 7/10

The new Spurs captain has been leading his team from behind and has been the heartbeat in the defence tonight to help Spurs keep back-to-back clean sheets.

Midfielders

Pape Matar Sarr - 7/10

Sarr had a decent outing tonight in the midfield

Joao Palhinha - 8.5/10

This was Palhinha's debut start for Spurs in the English Premier League, and he got a golden chance to score. He buried the ball behind the net to double the Spurs' lead in the first half.

Rodrigo Bentancur - 7/10

The Uruguayan also had a decent outing tonight and controlled the possession throughout the game for Spurs.

Strikers

Mohammad Kudus - 8/10

Ever since his inception with the Spurs, he has been a beast. Joining Spurs from West Ham, Kudus has been brilliant and has been constantly making attacks.

Richarlison - 7/10

Richie may not have found his name in the scoresheet, but he was the chief architect behind the second goal for Spurs.

Brennan Johnson - /10

Johnson does not leave any stone unturned to register his name in the scoresheet. While the goal was called offside, a later VAR check revealed that Johnson's goal was legal.

Who would have dared to think that City would go on to lose their first home game of the season? But Frank has been really raising a lot of eyebrows after his masterclass saw Spurs thrashing City at Etihad.
