  • Saudi Arabia finished second in Group D

The Quarter Final fixture in the CONCACAF Gold Cup took us to the State Farm Field Stadium in Arizona, where Mexico and Saudi Arabia locked horns against each other. Mexico finished at the top of Group A after a dominant display of football, whereas Saudi Arabia were behind the USA in Group D. The match started with Mexico dominating the Gulf giants as they eagerly kept pushing harder for the opener. Mexico took 11 shots before the hour mark, whereas Saudi Arabia did not even have a single shot on target until the first 60 minutes. Despite a goalless draw in the first half, Mexico drew the first blood after Vega scored a goal in the 49th minute to hand over a lead to the American outfit. Here are the player ratings between Mexico and Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia kept pushing hard for the equaliser throughout, but a catastrophe in the 81st minute saw their hopes getting destroyed. An own goal from Madu made it 2-0, and Mexico's one leg was already at the semi-finals. The debutants, Saudi Arabia, bowed out of the competition after a not-so-impressive campaign in the Gold Cup.
