Napoli 2-0 Cagliari Player Ratings: Antonio Conte's Men Seal Serie A Championship With Compelling Win

Napoli won the 2024/25 Serie A title with a compelling 2-0 win over Cagliari in their final match of the campaign at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on Friday, 23 May 2025. One goal apiece in each half was able to help Antonio Conte seal all three points and clinch the championship over Inter Milan by just one point! The Napoli vs Cagliari Player Ratings show how the clash unraveled.
The hosts began the game with utmost hunger and positive energy in their attempts to grab an early lead. Napoli had the first chance of the game in the 5th minute when Giacomo Raspadori swerved a shot inches away from the goal from a rebound after a corner. Antonio Conte's side created a big chance through a counter-attack five minutes later, with Billy Gilmour being played through on goal and seeing his shot saved, and Matteo Politano's effort going over the bar.
Amir Rrahmani had a close-range effort saved in the 15th minute as well, frustrating the fans. The hosts kept the pressure on, as Romelu Lukaku was played through on goal in the 25th minute, but his shot was saved well. Matias Olivera saw a header go wide in the 38th minute, before Leonardo Spinazzola saw a rebound from a cross saved well a minute later.
Just when frustrations were reaching a boiling point, Scott McTominay came up with something special. The Scotsman latched onto Politano's cross to hit a perfect bicycle kick to put his side ahead in the 42nd minute, sending the stadium into ruptures heading into the break.
Napoli refused to park the bus after the break and insisted on pushing forward for the second goal. Fortunately for them, they got that in the 51st minute as Romelu Lukaku weaved his way past multiple defenders before expertly slotting a ball into the back of the net to make it 2-0. The hosts also came close to scoring a third later on, as substitute David Neres was played through into the box in the 63rd minute, but had his effort saved well.
Neres went on to set up a chance for Lukaku two minutes later, but the Belgian forward diverted his header wide. The Napoli substitute had another chance in the 79th minute, but his effort was blocked off by the visitors' backline. Napoli were, however, able to hold onto their 2-0 lead to secure all three points and win the Serie A title, finishing the 2024/25 season on 82 points, only one point above Inter Milan!
