However, they were on the better side of VAR shortly after, as Renato Veiga was pulled down in the box by Nikola Vlasic, resulting in a penalty. Cristiano Ronaldo stepped up and slotted it straight down the middle, leaving Livakovic with no chance to save that.

The game was evenly split when Petar Sucic scored past Costa, but the flag went up immediately for offside. In the dying minutes of the game, Goncalo Ramos met Leao's cross to put Portugal ahead in the 94th minute, sending the Portugal fans crazy. Croatia thought they were back in the game with a last-minute goal, but VAR came to the rescue of Portugal once again.
