Real Betis 1-0 Real Madrid Player Ratings: Valles 9.6/10 as Parrott's Late Strike and Mbappe's Penalty Miss Leave Los Blancos Stunned

Troy Parrott's 81st-minute finish gave Real Betis the lead at Estadio La Cartuja de Sevilla. Kylian Mbappe stepped up in the 90+5th minute with the opportunity to salvage a point for the most expensive squad in La Liga history. Alvaro Valles had already made sure the margin would be this tight, and when it mattered most, he didn't need to intervene because the crossbar did it for him. Valles was extraordinary throughout at 9.6/10; his eight saves across 90 minutes were the primary reason Real Madrid's considerable possession and territorial dominance produced nothing until Parrott's counter-attacking winner changed everything.

His command of the penalty area, his reactions to Vinicius' two close-range efforts, and his complete authority throughout a second half where Madrid threw increasing numbers forward confirmed why Pellegrini's defensive organisation is built so specifically and deliberately around his individual reliability. Parrott's winner was exactly the kind of goal Real Betis had been building toward all evening, a composed first-time finish from Isco's precise through-ball on the counter, arriving when Madrid's defensive shape had been stretched by their relentless forward pressure and left exactly the space that Pellegrini's side had been patiently and deliberately waiting to exploit for over 80 disciplined minutes.

Mbappe's missed penalty, his second La Liga spot-kick failure in three matches, will dominate the post-match conversation, but it would be deeply unfair to reduce Betis's performance to a single moment of misfortune for their opponents. They earned this result through collective discipline, individual courage, and the kind of tactical intelligence that makes Pellegrini one of La Liga's most respected and consistently underestimated managers.
