Summary
Real Madrid took on Osasuna in the matchday 1 clash of the La Liga EA Sports 2025/26 season on 19th August, 2025, at 9:00 PM (GMT) at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu. Although the league started on 15th August, this was the first match that the two teams were playing in the new season.
Real Madrid started as the better team of the two, as they kept most of the possession and tried to look for spaces to exploit. However, Osasuna's compact defense gave them little opportunity to make a clear-cut chance in front of the goal. Sergio Herrera saved a couple of shots from Dean Huijsen and Eder Militao but was majorly untested by any of the Real Madrid forwards. Osasuna did counter once or twice but were unable to take their chances. The first half saw the two teams head down the tunnel without opening the scoring.
In the second half, the Los Blancos took the field with the same intensity and kept pushing for the opener. Osasuna were happy to defend in a low block, allowing little to no space for the Madrid players to exploit. However, a silly challenge from Juan Cruz on Kylian Mbappe in the box resulted in a penalty kick. The Frenchman stepped up and put it past Sergio Herrera, who dived the other way, to put Real Madrid ahead in the 51st minute of the game. Osasuna did enjoy a bit of possession after that but were unable to make something productive out of it. Madrid looked for a second goal to kill the game off, but Osasuna held their ground and didn't allow the Los Blancos to find the back of the net for a second time on the night. Here are the Real Madrid vs Osasuna Player Ratings.

Here are Sportsdunia's Real Madrid player ratings.
Goalkeeper:
Thibaut Courtois - 6/10
The Belgian goalkeeper was on point with his outing and played nicely with the ball at his feet from the back.
Defenders:
Trent Alexander-Arnold - 6/10
Trent did drift infield at times to make an extra man in the midfield. His passes were mostly crisp, and he put in a really good shift defensively.
Eder Militao - 6/10
The Brazilian has shown good signs since his return from the ACL injury. Militao made quite a number of forward passes and was on hand to intercept a few passes that could have been dangerous.
Dean Huijsen - 6.5/10
Dean Huijsen seems to be growing with every passing game, and he's just 20! The Spaniard always looked for a way forward when he had the ball at his feet and played quite a number of good passes to the attackers. He also held the defensive line well and cut the passing lanes efficiently.
Alvaro Carreras - 6.5/10
Another debutant alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold, Alvaro Carreras also had a decent outing in his first game at the Bernabeu. The left back was quite lively throughout the game as he made numerous forward runs and tracked back effectively in defensive transitions.

Midfielders:
Federico Valverde - 6/10
The skipper, Federico Valverde, played his part well as he defended with all his heart and made a few good off-the-ball runs into the Osasuna danger areas. His work rate again proved why he is called the engine of the Real Madrid midfield.
Aurelien Tchouameni - 6/10
Tchouameni played as the lone defensive midfielder and had a good game in the middle. Stationed in the heart of the defense, the Frenchman linked the defense to attack quite well and made quite a number of important interceptions in the middle of the park.
Arda Guler - 6.5/10
Arda Guler played a massive game out there, as he always seemed to do something extraordinary with the ball. The Turk played some nice one-touches with his compatriots and controlled the tempo of the game quite well.
Forwards:
Brahim Diaz - 6/10
The Moroccan tried to do some trickery down the right-hand side and was quite successful in it. Brahim combined well with Guler, who was all over the pitch and was instrumental in playing neat one-twos and opening up spaces in an otherwise compact Osasuna defense.
Kylian Mbappe - 7.5/10
Kylian Mbappe did take on a player or two and got the better of them at times. He created spaces for the other players to attack, too, as he dropped deep to combine with the midfielders. It was his quick feet inside the penalty box that forced an unnecessary tackle from Juan Cruz. Mbappe didn't miss from the spot to put the Los Blancos into the lead.
Vinicius Jr. - 5.5/10
Vinicius tried to make things happen on the left-hand side with his trickery and was successful to some extent. His passing seemed to improve a lot, and he tracked back at times to help out Carreras. However, the Brazilian was still far from his usual self.

Substitutes:
Dani Carvajal - 6/10
Franco Mastantuono - 5/10
Gonzalo Garcia - NA
Dani Ceballos - NA
Manager:
Xabi Alonso - 6.5/10
Alonso ditched his usual 3-4-3 formation and went for a 4-3-3 formation instead, which he fielded against WSG Tirol in Real Madrid's latest friendly game. His team kept most of the ball and were on point with their passing game. They did struggle to open up spaces at times, something that could be a thing of concern for the German manager.

Osasuna Player Ratings

Here are the Sportsdunia's Osasuna player ratings.
Goalkeeper:
Sergio Herrera - 6.5/10
Sergio Herrera made a good couple of saves in the first half from Dean Huijsen and Eder Militao, respectively. His distribution was quite decent too.
Defenders:
Flavien Boyomo - 6.5/10
Boyomo was the better of the three centre backs, as he held the defensive line quite well and made a good number of important tackles in and around the danger areas.
Alejandro Catena - 6/10
Alejandro Catena was on hand to thwart a number of Real Madrid crosses and also came out to put in a tackle or two in important areas of the pitch. He covered the spaces well and used his physicality to ward off Kylian Mbappe in aerial duels.
Juan Cruz - 5/10
Cruz had a decent first half, where he covered the spaces well and gave little to no room for Brahim Diaz to do his usual thing. However, in the second half, his reckless challenge on Mbappe inside the box cost his team a penalty, which the Frenchman expertly dispatched.

Midfielders:
Valentin Rosier - 6.5/10
Rosier did a good job defending against Vinicius Jr., as the Brazilian struggled to get past the Frenchman on numerous occasions. He used his physicality well to shield Vinicius and was always on his toes to track the runs of Vinicius or Carreras. Offensively, he offered very little.
Jon Moncayola - 6/10
Jon Moncayola held the defensive shape for Osasuna in the midfield quite well. He was on hand to make some important interceptions and neutralized Arda Guler to some extent.
Lucas Torro - 6/10
Torro provided the required defensive cover as he cut the passing lanes and made it hard for the Real Madrid midfielders to find a way through.
Abel Bretones - 4/10
Abel Bretones made a few good forward runs with the ball in the Los Blancos' danger areas but was majorly unable to do something fruitful. Defensively, he was beaten quite a number of times by the likes of Brahim Diaz and Kylian Mbappe. Saw a red card just a minute before the final whistle for elbowing Gonzalo Garcia in the face.
Ruben Garcia - 5.5/10
Garcia did feed a ball or two for Ante Budimir up front, but other than that, he was invisible throughout the game.
Aimar Oroz - 6/10
Aimar Oroz found some pocket of spaces and took good turns in the middle of the park to ward off his marker. He played some good passes forward, but his teammates were unable to latch onto them.
Forwards:
Ante Budimir - 5.5/10
Ante Budimir dropped deep at times to hold the ball and link up with his teammates. However, he didn't get much of a service from his teammates in the box and was largely ineffective as a result.
Substitutes:
Victor Munoz - 5/10
Moi Gomez - NA
Raul Garcia - NA
Manager:
Alessio Lisci - 6/10
Lisci fared well in his first match as the Osasuna boss. He fielded a 3-4-2-1 formation, which became 5-4-1 while defending. His team defended pretty well throughout the game, keeping things compact at the back and allowing little to no space to the Los Blancos midfielders and attackers. One lapse of concentration from Juan Cruz ruined their hopes, but it is expected that Osasuna will go on to improve from here on.
