Scotland Vs Denmark Player Ratings

Summary

  • Scotland is going straight to the 2026 World Cup. No play-offs needed!
  • Denmark still has a chance through the play-offs to enter the World Cup.
  • Tierney was the best player of the match

This match was an absolute rollercoaster from start to finish. Scotland exploded out of the blocks, with Scott McTominay firing them into an early lead. It felt like a classic smash-and-grab was on the cards.

However, Denmark responded by completely dominating possession. They patiently probed and passed, but Scotland's defense held firm for a long while. From our perspective, the second half was where the real chaos unfolded. A penalty, a red card for Denmark's Rasmus Kristensen, a go-ahead goal for Scotland that sent the home fans into delirium, and then a swift, heartbreaking equalizer. You simply couldn't look away.

In the end, a draw felt like a fair result, but it was Tierney who scored the goal and sealed it for Scotland at the last.

Scotland Player Ratings vs Denmark

Here are Scotland Player Ratings vs Denmark

Goalkeeper

Craig Gordon - 6.0: A fairly quiet evening for the veteran keeper for large spells. He couldn't do much about either of the goals, one being a penalty and the other a close-range finish. Made one important save inside the box. Not a performance to write home about, but he wasn't at fault.

Defenders

Aaron Hickey - 6.0: Was having a solid, if unspectacular, game before his evening was cut short by injury. He looked comfortable enough dealing with the Danish pressure on his flank. Did his job without any fuss before being subbed. We noticed he was diligent in his tracking back.

Andrew Robertson - 5.5: A night to forget for the captain, which is something we rarely say. He looked uncharacteristically clumsy and gave away the penalty after a VAR review. From our perspective, he was dribbled past far too easily on several occasions. A performance that was well below his world-class standards.

Grant Hanley - 7.5: A colossal performance at the heart of the defense. He was an absolute magnet to the ball, making six crucial clearances and winning almost every aerial battle he contested. A proper old-school defender's display. Stood tall when his team needed him most.

Scott McKenna - 6.5: Formed a solid partnership with Hanley. Threw his body on the line with two blocked shots and was generally reliable. He lost a couple of duels but his positioning was mostly sound. A decent showing against a tricky attack.

Midfielders

Scott McTominay - 7.0: Got Scotland off to a dream start with a well-taken goal in the opening minutes. His influence waned as Denmark began to dominate the midfield battle. He put in a defensive shift but struggled to retain possession. Still, his goal was a massive moment in the match.

John McGinn - 6.5: All energy and fight, as we've come to expect. He won a remarkable eight duels and drew four fouls, constantly disrupting Denmark's rhythm. However, his final product was lacking and he lost the ball more than he would have liked. A tireless but frustrating performance.

Ryan Christie - 6.0: A willing runner who worked hard for the team but struggled to make a real impact on the game. He was largely on the periphery of the action before being substituted. A quiet day at the office for the midfielder.

Lewis Ferguson - 8.0: What a machine. He was absolutely everywhere for Scotland and our pick for their best player. He recorded an incredible six tackles, three interceptions, and seven clearances. To top it all off, he provided the assist for what should have been the winning goal. A phenomenal, all-action display.

Forwards

Lyndon Dykes - 6.0: The lone striker put in a shift, battling gamely against the Danish centre-backs. He won a few headers but was largely isolated and starved of service. Never stopped running but couldn't provide the goal threat needed. It was a tough, thankless task for him.

Substitutes

Lawrence Shankland - 7.5: The dream substitute impact. Came off the bench and scored what looked to be the late winner. A true poacher's finish that sent Hampden Park into a frenzy. Couldn't have done much more.

Ché Adams - 6.5: Replaced Dykes and offered fresh legs. Had a decent headed chance late on that he couldn't convert. Worked hard to press the Danish backline.

Kieran Tierney - 9: Slotted in seamlessly for the injured Hickey. He was solid and didn't put a foot wrong during his time on the pitch. scored the winner

Ben Gannon-Doak - 7.0: What an cameo from the youngster. In just over 20 minutes he provided the crucial assist for Shankland's goal with a great delivery. Looked sharp and direct every time he got the ball.

Manager

S. Clarke - 7.0: His initial game plan worked perfectly, grabbing the early lead. His team defended with heart and his substitutions nearly won them the game. Can't be held responsible for the late lapse in concentration. He'll be disappointed not to get the win but proud of the effort.

Goalkeeper

Kasper Schmeichel - 6.0: Was a spectator for large parts of the game despite his team conceding two goals. Couldn't be blamed for either finish. He did make one crucial save to deny Lawrence Shankland, which kept his team in it. A strange game for a goalkeeper.

Defenders

Joachim Andersen - 6.0: A mixed bag of a performance. Picked up an early yellow card and looked a little rash in the challenge. He was comfortable on the ball, boasting a 93% pass accuracy, but looked defensively vulnerable at times. We expected a more composed display from him.

Andreas Christensen - 7.5: Oozed class and composure at the back. His passing was near-perfect, and he even popped up with an assist and created two chances. Defensively solid and won all his duels. A top performance from the centre-back.

Rasmus Kristensen - 4.0: A disastrous outing that he will want to forget immediately. He was rash, committed three fouls, and was rightfully sent off for a second yellow card. He completely let his teammates down and put them in a massive hole. A truly poor performance.

Patrick Dorgu - 8.5: Our Man of the Match. An absolutely outstanding performance from the left-back. He was a menace going forward all game, creating chances and causing problems. Defensively, he was immense, winning nine duels. He capped it all off by scoring the vital late equalizer with a cool head. What a player.

Midfielders

Gustav Isaksen - 8.0: The main creative force for Denmark. He created an incredible five chances for his teammates and won the penalty with his clever play. His end product wasn't always perfect, but he was a constant, dangerous threat down the right-hand side. A really impressive, lively display.

Victor Froholdt - 6.0: A quiet game for the midfielder. He worked hard and kept possession ticking over but offered very little in an attacking sense. He was neat and tidy but largely anonymous. We felt he could have been more adventurous.

Mikkel Damsgaard - 6.5: Looked bright and inventive in spells, creating a couple of good chances before he was substituted. He drifted in and out of the game. From our perspective, he has so much quality but we only saw it in flashes today. Disappointing to see him go off.

Morten Hjulmand - 7.0: The anchor in Denmark's midfield. He was incredibly tidy in possession, recycling the ball with 93% accuracy. Also contributed defensively with five duels won and two tackles. A very solid, disciplined performance that allowed others to shine.

Pierre-Emile Højbjerg - 7.5: The captain was everywhere. He had 117 touches, showcasing his control of the game's tempo. Defensively, he was a machine, with nine ball recoveries and three interceptions. A real leader's performance, driving his team forward even when they were down to ten men.

Forwards

Rasmus Højlund - 7.0: It was a frustrating night for the striker, but he never gave up. He was a physical handful, winning six duels, but missed a couple of good chances. He showed nerves of steel to step up and bury the penalty to level the scores. A tireless effort up front.

Substitutes

Jannik Vestergaard - 6.5: Came on to shore up the defense after the red card and did his job effectively. His presence was needed to handle Scotland's late aerial threat.

Christian Nørgaard - N/A: Came on for the final few minutes and didn't have enough time to make an impact on the game.

Manager

B. Riemer - 7.0: His team showed great character to fight back for a point with ten men. They dominated the ball for the entire game but perhaps lacked a clinical edge for long periods. His decision to keep pushing forward late on paid off handsomely with the equalizer. A well-earned point on the road.
