Sevilla Vs Barcelona Player Ratings

Summary

  • Barcelona was handed their first loss of the domestic campaign at the hands of Sevilla at the Ramon Sanchez
  • Carmona was the best player of the match
  • Lewandowski and Roony were the worst players of the match

This statement might hurt some Culers, but if your team can't create chances without players like Raphinha and Yamal and fails to capitalize on chances, you must forget about winning the UEFA Champions League trophy this season too.

Everything went right for the home side at the Ramon Sanchez Stadium, as they beat Barcelona's high line. The reason could be frequent changes in Barcelona's backline due to injuries and rotations. However, Sevilla failed to capitalize on the chances they created in the first half; otherwise, the scoreline might have been 3-1 or 4-1 by halftime.

For the first time this season, Barcelona looked clueless and were just like any other 11 spectators among the 40,000 who attended the match. However, a looping cross from Spanish midfielder Pedri found an unmarked Rashford, who scored the goal that gave Barcelona something to fight for in the second half.

Barcelona’s defense looked shaky all afternoon. They were punished again on a swift counter-attack finished by the impressive Isaac Romero. Just when it seemed Barça were down and out, Marcus Rashford pulled one back with a brilliant strike just before the half-time whistle, giving them a glimmer of hope. However, the second half told a familiar story. Barcelona huffed and puffed but couldn't blow the house down, epitomized by Robert Lewandowski's shocking penalty miss which sailed wide of the post. It was a moment that killed any chance of a comeback.

Sevilla managed the game expertly from there. They defended with heart and discipline, frustrating the visitors at every turn. It was a tactical masterclass from the home side, who fully deserved the three points.

Barcelona Player Ratings vs Sevilla

Here are Barcelona Player Ratings vs Sevilla

Goalkeeper

Wojciech Szczesny - 5.0: A really tough day at the office for the goalkeeper. He only made one save all game which is a startling statistic. While he wasn't directly at fault for the goals, he looked rooted to the spot for most of them. What stood out to us was a lack of command in his area. Sevilla’s attackers seemed to have his number. A forgettable performance.

Defenders

Jules Koundé - 5.5: He tried to get forward and even had a shot on target saved well. Defensively, however, he was part of a unit that was all at sea. From our perspective he lost far too many duels (5) and was caught out of position more than once. He just didn't look comfortable against Sevilla's pace on the break.

Ronald Araujo - 4.0: A disastrous outing for the captain. He gave away the penalty in the first 10 minutes with a clumsy challenge that set the tone for his team's collapse. He looked rattled and lost more duels than he won before being mercifully substituted at half-time. A player of his caliber should be doing so much better.

Pau Cubarsí - 6.5: The young defender was one of the few who could hold his head high. He was busy all game, making an impressive six clearances and winning all of his duels. He even created a big chance going forward. There's a real player in there, but he was let down by those around him.

Gerard Martín - 4.5: Like his defensive partner Araujo, he had a torrid first half. He picked up a yellow card and was hooked at the break. He struggled to contain Sevilla's wide players and offered very little going forward. It was a performance that showed his inexperience at this level.

Midfielders

Frenkie de Jong - 6.0: An anonymous performance from the Dutchman, which is something we rarely say. He kept the ball ticking over but had little to no impact on the game's decisive moments. He picked up a needless yellow card out of frustration. We expected more leadership from him in the middle of the park.

Pedri - 7.5: Barcelona's best player on a miserable day. He provided the assist for Rashford's goal and was always looking to create, making three key passes. What stood out was his constant desire to get on the ball and make things happen, even when the game was running away from his team. He fought until the end.

Ferran Torres - 5.0: He worked hard but was largely ineffective. He lost possession frequently and his decision-making in the final third was poor. A yellow card for a cynical foul summed up his frustrating afternoon before he was substituted.

Dani Olmo - 6.0: He was a livewire, drawing four fouls and always trying to run at the Sevilla defense. However, his end product was lacking. For all his neat touches and movement, he couldn't provide the spark his team desperately needed. A frustrating watch.

Marcus Rashford - 7.5: Scored a fantastic goal that gave his team a lifeline. He was a constant threat with his pace and willingness to shoot, testing the keeper multiple times. Despite picking up a yellow card, he was one of the few who showed real fight and quality for the visitors.

Forwards

Robert Lewandowski - 3.5: A truly shocking performance from the Polish striker. The missed penalty was the defining moment of his game, and possibly the match. To miss the target completely at such a crucial time is unforgivable. Beyond that, he lost 8 of his 10 duels and looked completely off the pace. One of his worst days in a Barcelona shirt.

Substitutes

Eric García - 6.0: Came on at halftime and was an improvement on Araujo, but that wasn't hard. He was solid enough and even forced a save from a header.

Alejandro Balde - 6.5: Provided some much-needed energy down the left flank after replacing Martín. He won the penalty that Lewandowski subsequently missed.

Roony Bardghji - 6.5: Looked bright and dangerous after coming on, forcing a good save from the keeper. He was not afraid to shoot.

Andreas Christensen - N/A: Came on too late to have any real impact on the game.

Manager

H. Flick - 4.5: His team looked tactically naive and defensively shambolic. The decision to start Araujo as captain backfired spectacularly. While the halftime changes were necessary, his side never truly looked like they could turn the game around, and the lack of a clear plan was evident. A difficult day for the manager.

Goalkeeper

Odysseas Vlachodimos - 8.5: A colossal performance from the Sevilla shot-stopper. He made five saves, several of which were crucial to keeping his team ahead. His save from Koundé's header in the first half was world-class. He commanded his box with authority and his distribution was solid. A near-perfect game.

Defenders

José Ángel Carmona - 9.0: Our Man of the Match. What a performance from the defender. He scored a brilliant goal, was defensively immense winning 8 out of 9 duels, and was a constant threat. He completely dominated his flank. It's rare to see such a complete performance from a full-back. Truly outstanding.

Marcão - 7.0: The captain led by example at the back. He was physical, organized his backline well, and made some important clearances. The yellow card was a small blot on an otherwise strong and composed defensive display.

César Azpilicueta - 6.5: Used all his experience to manage the game. He wasn't spectacular but he was solid and reliable. He made a couple of key blocks and his positioning was generally good. A professional performance from the veteran.

Gabriel Suazo - 8.0: Excellent performance down the left. He was a menace going forward, delivering a remarkable five accurate crosses and creating two chances. Defensively, he was solid, making four tackles and two interceptions. A fantastic all-around display.

Midfielders

Lucien Agoumé - 7.0: A mixed bag, but mostly positive. He provided a lovely assist and was tidy in possession. However, he also picked up a booking and had a couple of nervy moments. Overall, his creative contribution was key to Sevilla's attacking play.

Batista Mendy - 6.5: A solid, combative display in midfield before being substituted. He broke up play effectively and did the dirty work that allowed his more creative teammates to shine. He did his job well.

Djibril Sow - 6.0: A quiet but effective game. He kept it simple and supported the play without taking too many risks. He was substituted after an hour having done his part for the team.

Rubén Vargas - 8.0: Absolutely instrumental in Sevilla's win. He provided the brilliant assist for the second goal after a blistering counter-attack. His movement and vision caused Barcelona problems all afternoon. A superb creative performance.

Alexis Sánchez - 7.5: Showed nerves of steel to convert the early penalty and set his team on their way. He worked tirelessly, pressing from the front and tracking back to help his defense. A real leader's performance filled with grit and quality.

Forwards

Isaac Romero - 8.5: A phenomenal performance. He was a constant thorn in Barcelona's side with his movement and physicality. He took his goal with great composure and was unlucky not to have more. He was the focal point of Sevilla's devastating attack.

Akor Adams - 6.0: Provided fresh legs up front and held the ball up well to relieve pressure.

Adnan Januzaj - 5.5: His main contribution was giving away a penalty almost immediately after coming on. A rash challenge that could have been costly.

Peque Fernández - 6.0: Didn't have much time but worked hard to help his team defensively.

Manager

M. Almeyda - 9.0: He got his tactics absolutely spot on. His team was set up perfectly to exploit Barcelona's weaknesses on the counter-attack. They were disciplined, organized, and clinical. A tactical masterclass from the Sevilla boss that earned a famous victory.
