Wolves vs Everton Player Ratings

Summary

  • Wolves put on a dominant display against Everton in Round 3 of the Carabao Cup.
  • Dwight McNeil was the worst performer on the pitch, receiving the lowest ratings.
  • Andre had a terrific game against Everton and was the highest-rated player.

Wolves secured a commanding 2-0 victory over Everton in a Carabao Cup third-round clash that felt more one-sided than the scoreline might suggest. From our perspective, Wolves were simply the better team on the night at Molineux Stadium. They controlled the tempo and created the more meaningful chances throughout the match.

The breakthrough came just before the half-hour mark. Marshall Munetsi found himself in the right place at the right time to slot home, punishing some lax Everton defending. It was a deserved lead. The visitors struggled to find any rhythm, with many of their key players looking off the pace.

Wolves continued to press their advantage in the second half. While Everton did have moments, including a ferocious strike from James Garner that rattled the crossbar, they never truly looked like getting back into it. The game was put to bed late on when substitute Tolu Arokodare coolly finished to make it 2-0 in the 87th minute. It was a clinical performance from the home side, who now advance to the next round. For Everton, it's back to the drawing board after a really disjointed and disappointing display. Here are the Wolves vs Everton player ratings.

Wolves Player Ratings vs Everton

Here are the Wolves player ratings vs Everton.

Goalkeeper

Sam Johnstone - 7.5: A really solid night's work for the keeper. He made four saves and looked confident commanding his area. What stood out to us was his save from Michael Keane late in the game; it was top-class. A clean sheet and a performance that instilled confidence in his backline. He barely put a foot wrong.

Defenders

Matt Doherty - 7.0: A proper captain's performance, even if it wasn't flashy. He was defensively sound for the most part, making four crucial interceptions. We noticed he was a bit wasteful in possession sometimes, but his work rate made up for it. He led by example and kept his side of the defence organized against Everton's wide players.

Hugo Bueno - 6.5: An active but mixed performance from the fullback. He tried to get forward and support the attack, but was caught out defensively a couple of times. He won a decent number of his duels but you could see his frustration when he was dribbled past. It was an okay performance, but there's room for improvement.

Santiago Bueno - 7.0: He was a rock at the back for Wolves. His passing was impressively accurate, and he made five important clearances. The yellow card was a blot on his copybook, a result of a slightly rash challenge. But overall, he was composed and reliable, which is exactly what you want from your center-back.

Ladislav Krejci - 7.5: What a classy performance this was. He looked so comfortable on the ball, spraying passes around with ease. Defensively, he was just as good, making key tackles and interceptions. From our perspective, he read the game beautifully. A very intelligent and effective display that made a real difference.

Midfielders

Marshall Munetsi - 8.0: He was an absolute engine in the midfield before being substituted. Scored the crucial opening goal with a smart finish. Beyond the goal, his physicality was immense, winning 10 duels and dominating his area of the pitch. He was everywhere, breaking up play and driving his team forward. A fantastic, all-action display.

André - 8.5: The Man of the Match, without a doubt. It was an absolute masterclass in midfield control. A 100% pass completion rate is just staggering at this level. He won nearly every duel, tackled with precision, and made it all look effortless. It was a massive blow to see him go off injured, and Wolves will be praying it's not serious. He was the highest-rated player on the pitch for a reason.

Jean-Ricner Bellegarde - 6.5: A quieter game from him compared to his midfield partners. He showed some nice touches and created a couple of chances. However, we felt he was a bit loose in possession at times, which invited pressure. Not a bad performance by any means, just not as influential as he can be.

Forwards

Jørgen Strand Larsen - 6.0: It was a tough night for the striker. He struggled to get into the game and lost the physical battle against Everton's defenders, winning just a third of his duels. He worked hard off the ball but couldn't provide the cutting edge required. It wasn't a surprise to see him substituted.

Jhon Arias - 8.0: A constant thorn in Everton's side. His dribbling and pace were electric. He created three chances and was always looking to make something happen. What stood out to us was his defensive work rate, tracking back to help his fullback. A really impressive and complete winger's performance.

Hee-chan Hwang - 7.0: He was a livewire, constantly buzzing around and looking for shooting opportunities. While his final product was a bit wayward, his movement and energy caused all sorts of problems. He put in a great shift for the team and his relentless running tired out the opposition defence. A good, solid contribution.

Substitutes

Tolu Arokodare - 7.5: What an impact. Came on and immediately gave Wolves a different dimension with his presence. He took his goal brilliantly, sealing the win with a composed finish. You can't ask for much more from a substitute.

Rodrigo Gomes - 6.0: Slotted in well after coming on. Kept things tidy and helped see out the game without much fuss.

João Gomes - 5.5: Came on late and picked up a needless yellow card. Didn't have much time to do anything else.

Toti Gomes - 6.0: A late defensive change to ensure the clean sheet was kept. Did his job.

Emmanuel Agbadou - N/A: Brought on for the last few minutes as an injury replacement for André.

Manager

V. de Oliveira Lopes Pereira - 8.0: He got his game plan absolutely spot on. The team was well-drilled, balanced, and played with confidence. His substitutions were perfect, particularly the introduction of Tolu Arokodare who killed the game off. A great tactical victory for the Wolves boss.

Everton Player Ratings vs Wolves

Here are the Everton player Ratings vs Wolves.

Goalkeeper

Mark Travers - 6.0: It’s hard to be too critical of him for the goals; he was left exposed by his defence. He made a couple of decent saves to keep the score down. His distribution was okay, but it was a long and difficult night for the Everton keeper who faced a lot of pressure.

Defenders

Michael Keane - 6.5: He had a very busy evening. He won a good number of his aerial duels and made some important clearances. However, he was part of a defensive unit that looked vulnerable. What will frustrate him most is the big chance he missed at the end, a header that could have given his team a lifeline.

James Tarkowski - 5.5: This was an uncharacteristically shaky performance. From our perspective, he never looked comfortable and lost possession far too many times. He was second-best in several duels and struggled to deal with the movement of Wolves' attackers. A night to forget for the usually reliable defender.

Jake O'Brien - 7.5: One of the few bright sparks for Everton, which was a surprise. He was not only solid at the back but also a threat going forward, creating a big chance and four key passes. He looked composed and determined, a real positive to take from a poor team performance. A really promising display.

Séamus Coleman - 6.0: The captain tried his best to rally his troops, but it was a struggle. He put in his usual hard-working shift but was often overwhelmed down his flank. He made a few important recoveries but ultimately couldn't stem the tide before being substituted. You can never fault his effort.

Midfielders

Dwight McNeil - 5.0: A really poor performance. He was a passenger for much of the game, struggling to make any impact at all. He lost the ball ten times in just 59 minutes and offered very little creativity. His substitution was completely justified, he just wasn't at the races.

Tyler Dibling - 5.5: The young midfielder showed some nice moments on the ball but was ultimately overwhelmed. He struggled to impose himself physically and was often on the periphery of the action. It's a learning experience for him, but this wasn't his night.

Carlos Alcaraz - 5.5: Another player who failed to grab the game by the scruff of the neck. He had a very high pass completion rate but the passes were safe and ineffective. He was hooked at half-time, which tells its own story about his lack of impact in the first 45 minutes.

James Garner - 8.0: Everton's best player by a country mile. He was a warrior in midfield, fighting for every ball and trying to drive his team forward. He created chances, made tackles, and was desperately unlucky to see his brilliant free-kick cannon off the crossbar. A superb individual performance in a losing cause.

Tim Iroegbunam - 6.5: A solid and industrious performance in the middle of the park. He recovered the ball seven times and showed good energy throughout. He tried to break up play and was one of the few Everton players who can hold their head up high. A decent showing amidst the chaos.

Forwards

Thierno Barry - 5.0: A frustrating evening for the forward. He missed an early headed chance, picked up a booking, and was then substituted at half-time. He struggled to get any change out of the Wolves' defence and never looked like a goal threat.

Substitutes

Beto - 6.0: Came on at half-time and offered a bit more of a physical presence up front. However, he couldn't find a clear-cut chance to get his team back in the game.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall - 6.5: He added some much-needed energy and creativity to the midfield. He looked to get on the ball and make things happen, setting up a late chance.

Iliman Ndiaye - 6.0: He was lively when he came on and wasn't afraid to shoot, but his aim was off. He got into good positions but lacked composure in front of goal.

Jack Grealish - 6.0: Drew a few fouls and tried to be clever on the ball, but couldn't find the key to unlock a well-organized defence.

Vitalii Mykolenko - N/A: Came on for the final 12 minutes with the game already slipping away.

Manager

D. Moyes - 5.0: It's hard to defend this one. His starting lineup lacked cohesion and creativity, and the team looked second-best all over the park. While he tried to change things with substitutions, the damage was already done. A disappointing tactical setup and result for the Everton manager.
