Clash of Clans Use Heroes While Upgrading: Community's Favorite Bug

Amid the buzz of the recent February 2026 Sneak Peeks and the new hero Dragon Duke's arrival after leaks, the community discovered that they can use heroes while they are being upgraded.
While it was considered a feature for a brief moment after revisiting the Clash of Clans February Update 2026 patch notes, it was clear that this is indeed a bug. The bug exists after the latest updates, and it works on the heroes that were put up for upgrade before the update. Therefore, if you are putting your hero for an upgrade post this February update, you won't be able to take benefit from this bug.
How to use Heroes while upgrading in Clash of Clans?
Here's how you can take advantage of the Clash of Clans use Heroes while upgrading bug:
- Take a look at the heroes that have been put for upgrade.
- Head over to the Multiplayer Battle and replace any hero with the one that is being upgraded.
- You will see that even while being upgraded, it is ready for battle.
- Find a base for attacking, and you will notice the hero is ready for deployment.
From there, you can carry on with your attacking just like you normally do. In addition to multiplayer battles, you can also use the hero in friendly attacks and war attacks.
Please note that if a hero was put for upgrade before the February update and you have cancelled the upgrade after the update arrives, you can still put the hero for upgrade and take benefit from the bug. Let's say you have put the Minion Prince before the February update.
- After the update arrived, just cancel the hero upgrade and then put him up for upgrade again.
- From there, when you try to do a multiplayer battle, it will show you that the hero is unavailable for battle.
- Get back and put a Friendly Challenge for your clanmates.
- Then go for a multiplayer battle and end the battle right away without deploying any hero or troop.
- Try to go for another multiplayer battle, and now you will see the Minion Prince is ready to be used while it is being upgraded.
These are the ways you can benefit from the ‘Clash of Clans use Heroes while upgrading’ bug. As of now, Supercell is yet to acknowledge or fix the bug.
