The introduction of Heroes in Clash Royale has been a controversial move so far. While many have praised their in-game implementation and consider it an evolution of the game, many have voiced their opinions regarding how broken and overpowered some of them are. Others have also voiced their concerns regarding how difficult it is to unlock them, favoring pay-to-win players more than free-to-play players.

While these Heroes are here to stay for the time being, I have created a Clash Royale best Heroes tier list that ranks all the Heroes from best to worst so that you know who is the best Hero in Clash Royale and which ones you should unlock first.

Clash Royale Best Heroes Tier List: All Heroes Ranked From Best to Worst

As of now, there are a total of 10 heroes in this game that you can acquire by collecting Hero Coins from the Pass Royale and through special events if you opt to save real money. Now that the latest Clash Royale mid-March update gives you 200 Hero Coins for free so that you can unlock one for free, it's best for you to know which one you should unlock first.

In this Clash Royale best Heroes tier list, I have decided to rank them all depending on how individually strong they are and how well they synergize with other cards during strategic deckbuilding. Therefore, I have segmented this tier list into three tiers: S, A, and B, with more to be added as new ones get introduced. While S-tier signifies the best Heroes in Clash Royale, C rank represents the most underwhelming ones in the current Clash Royale meta.

S-Tier

If you wish to unlock Heroes for free in Clash Royale, S-tier Heroes should be your first picks. These cards by themselves are pretty strong, along with having great synergies with other cards. The two best Heroes in Clash Royale right now are:

Hero Knight

The Hero Knight tops this Clash Royale best Heroes tier list because of his versatility in both offense and defense using his two-cost Triumphant Taunt ability that redirects all enemy attacks towards himself as he blocks them all with his new shield. Do you see enemy troops charging towards your tower or your main win condition? Why not activate his ability to lure them away and protect your troops and towers?

Activating his ability also lets you lure enemy defenders away from your win condition so that they can keep on attacking peacefully. This makes him essential in win condition-heavy Clash Royale best Hog Rider decks. His shield also has its own health, which technically increases his overall health and makes him tankier than before.

Hero Wizard

Hero Wizard is one of the best Heroes in Clash Royale because of his amazing one-cost Fiery Flight ability that makes him airborne while he rains down fire from above. The best part? He also casts a tornado wherever he attacks, letting him suck in nearby enemies in one place to damage them all. This ability gives him great value in both offense and defense when using the best Clash Royale Hero Wizard decks.

Hero Goblins

The third entry in this list of Clash Royale best Heroes is the Hero Goblins. When the last of your four Goblins dies, it now leaves a banner behind wherever it died for seven seconds. During this time, you can activate its one-cost Banner Brigade ability that respawns all four Goblins again in the exact place when using the best Hero Goblins decks in Clash Royale.

This makes it valuable in defense if you need extra troops for defense. However, it becomes even more valuable during an attack if you can respawn them near enemy towers. Once no defenders are nearby, you can respawn them to let them quickly run up to attack enemy towers. Best used when the tower is already fixated on your other troops, forcing your enemy to counter it by spending more elixir.

A-Tier

All the A-tier Clash Royale best Heroes could've made the tier above, only getting outshone by them in versatility in deckbuilding and raw damage output. The four entries to make this tier are:

Hero Mega Minion

Hero Mega Minion could've been an A-tier Hero, only getting downplayed due to its use-case scenarios. Its two-cost Wounding Warp ability makes it teleport to the lowest maximum HP enemy troop to attack it. If there's a tie, it will then go to the unit that is the farthest away. With infinite range, it can even teleport to units behind the enemy king tower from your side of the field! However, in the heat of battle, this can change in a split second, which can make it target enemies that you didn't intend to.

While it's good for targeting enemy defenders when you attack and for taking out squishy troops like the Firecracker and the Princess, you will overall have fewer valuable scenarios to benefit from its ability when using the best Clash Royale Hero Mega Minion decks.

Hero Ice Golem

The Hero Ice Golem is a great Clash Royale Hero that gets weaker during defense. Its two-cost Snowstorm ability lets it slow down enemy troops, buildings, and towers, and damage them in three pulses. If enemies are stupid enough to stay nearby for all three pulses, it completely freezes them for two seconds.

This is super effective when you lead attacks with it since it can slow and freeze enemies so that your other win conditions and high-damaging troops can take the crown home. However, this is less effective when you are defending your towers while playing with the best Hero Ice Golem decks in Clash Royale.

Hero Barbarian Barrel

The Hero Barbarian Barrel is the latest Hero to be introduced in Clash Royale. Its two-cost Rowdy Reroll ability lets it roll a second time. While this might seem less flashy than the other Clash Royale best Heroes on this list, it's quite effective against current meta decks that have a lot of Wall Breakers and Evolved Skeleton Barrels in their decks.

It's also a good counter to the Hero Goblin's resurrection if you can time it right. Moreover, it will directly target enemy towers if its first roll gets it past the bridge. It should come as no surprise that the second roll also deals more damage than the first.

Hero Giant

The last A-tier Hero is the Hero Giant. With its two-cost Heroic Hurl ability, it can send nearby enemy troops with the highest maximum HP flying away to the other side horizontally, dealing damage when they crash land. Moreover, it can also target air troops, although they don't take damage.

This is great for pushing away enemy defenders, being useful against some of the best Clash Royale Miner decks. You will find it to be more useful during attacks when you hurl enemy defenders so that he can keep punching enemy towers.

B-Tier

Finally, we have the B-tier Heroes. These are pretty weak compared to others above while also being usable in less meta decks since they have less synergy with other cards. They are:

Hero Magic Archer

The Hero Magic Archer tops the B-tier of this Clash Royale best Heroes tier list. Its one-cost Triple Threat ability lets it get out of tight spots like a ninja as it teleports backwards while leaving a decoy behind. Moreover, his next attack becomes empowered, allowing him to shoot three arrows that go through enemies and have more range than his standard attacks.

This forces you to rely on its individual strength and use it less in combos. The only viable combo is using Tornado to pull enemies in one place before shooting them with a triple arrow hit.

Hero Mini P.E.K.K.A

We all know that the Mini P.E.K.K.A loves pancakes. He loves them so much that he now starts cooking them in battle and storing them in his pockets (probably?). Every 22 seconds, the Mini P.E.K.K.A cooks one pancake. Alternatively, he can also gain one pancake by hitting an enemy twice.

When it's time to eat them, you can use its one-cost Breakfast Boost ability to make it instantly gain an additional level for each pancake he eats, with the last one giving an additional level. Therefore, if he eats one pancake, he gains two levels. If he eats two, he gains three levels. If he eats three, he gains five, and so on. This way, he can go up to level 22 if you have a level 16 Mini P.E.K.K.A.

While this might make him a force to be reckoned with since he has high damage output, it's ultimately a simple stat increase and nothing else. This makes him less useful in pulling off game-ending combos. On the flip side, this makes it strong against the best Mega Knight decks in Clash Royale.

Hero Musketeer

The Hero Musketeer is by far the weakest Hero in Clash Royale and is in desperate need of some buffs that I wish to see in the next Clash Royale update. Her three-cost Trusty Turret ability lets her summon a turret in front of her for 10 seconds that acts like the Cannon building. It can lure enemy win conditions like Balloons and Hog Riders towards it for some time as she continues firing at them.

However, this is underwhelming because of a few reasons. First, it's the most expensive Hero ability, costing three elixirs. Second, while it lasts 10 seconds, it can be destroyed early by enemy attacks. Overall, it's a reactive ability that is more valuable in defense and offense, with no synergies with other cards.
