Highguard 5v5 Raid Mode: Finally, Players Can Find Targets That Shoot Back

The primary reason why Highguard faced backlash is for being a 3v3. No, there's nothing wrong with being a 3v3 FPS in 2026; however, the developers should've designed the maps accordingly. Most negative online reviews suggested that the maps were too big, making it more difficult to find targets in a 3v3 setup.

The developers, however, took this constructively and found a decent solution. They introduced an experimental 5v5 for everyone to cherish on January 31, 2026.

As expected, players leaned more towards the experimental mode, and surprisingly, the game saw a noticeable surge in its playerbase. As a result, the developers did the obvious and decided to make the Highguard new raid mode permanent. Basically, what started as an experimental mode, developers made it long-lasting.

As they made this mode permanent, they took it to X and posted:

You've been asking, and we're happy to share—5v5 Raid Mode is here to stay! We appreciate everyone hopping in over the weekend to give the mode a try. We saw a fairly even split between 3v3 and 5v5, which helped inform our decision.

Community Reacts to the Addition of Highguard 5v5 Raid Mode

As soon as the developers shared the official post, the community was quick enough to show their happiness across platforms, including X and Reddit. A sea of users loved that Wildlight decided to make the 5v5 mode permanent. One of the users, @Pro_Kesadia, has appreciated this move from the devs. They mentioned:

GREAT MOVE! Im glad are making great decisions after launch.

Another Reddit user, u/USSGravyGuzzler, hoped the devs might add some new achievements, specifically for the 5v5 mode.

On the other hand, another user @Nokopuffs have mentioned how introducing 4v4 would've been the right choice but 5v5 also work. They mentioned:
I definitely think 4v4 would be the sweet spot but glad 5v5 was received well.

Amidst a sea of positive responses, @Bigfootpool has pointed out that the 5v5 mode was too late, and Wildlight has already lost 90% of its playerbase during the first week. They commented:

Too little too late. People tried it and it was poorly running and not fun. Thus it lost over 90% it's player base. Didn't help the devs said they didn't need players.

Regardless of what people say, as an FPS enjoyer myself, I would say this was a much-needed addition, especially when Wildlight is trying to bring something new to the genre. It might resemble tons of already existing games and their genres, but let's be honest, it's 2026.

Every other competitive game might feel like a replica of the others. One thing, however, we can all agree on is that despite introducing 5v5 modes in the second week itself, Highguard might take a few months to see a stable player count.

Moreover, Wildlight has already made a roadmap, revealing a few plans for the upcoming weeks. It includes introduction of Wardens, Maps, Weapons, and a plethora of things. It'll be interesting to see how the community reacts to these implementations.
