Following the first tease of the new Sims game and year-long leaks, the community anticipated a mobile-only game. Amid rumours and concerns about the franchise, Maxis, the developer of the Sims, has shared an update on Project Rene, stating that it will be a social multiplayer mobile game. In addition to the Project Rene mobile announcement, we also got a glimpse of the future plans.

Project Rene Announced To Launch As A Mobile-Only Title

While the rumours of Project Rene were taken as Sims 5 leaks three years ago, EA never announced the new project as such. Having been pushed since the last three years, the game was anticipated to launch for both PC and Mobile at the beginning.

As teasers and leaks of the new Project Rene poured in, it was understood that it would launch as a mobile-only game. Project Rene will be independent from the Sims series. Speaking of which, the Sims 4 community is yet to receive any Sims 5 leaks.

The Sims 4 next expansion pack leak is the latest news of the game. The PC and Console gamers are not even sure that they could expect anything new.

A Bittersweet News for the PC and Console Gamers

While EA is ready to bring a new experience to mobile gamers with the Project Rene mobile finally announced at the beginning of 2026, uncertainty persists among Sims 4 players.

In August 2025, the Entertainment President of EA, Laura Miele, emphasised the importance of new content for the existing Sims 4.

“What I wouldn’t want to have happen is you to have to start from day zero and start from scratch and give up all of the things that you have created, give up all of the content that you’ve purchased over the years,” Miele said.

The announcement from EA and Maxis clearly separates the plans for Project Rene and Sims 4. While not directly stating the plans for future updates, Maxis ensured the PC and Console gaming community that they were working on Sims 4 and Sims Next Evolution.

“Single-player PC and console experiences will always be a part of our future, with more than half of our global development team dedicated to The Sims 4 and the next evolution. More news in the coming months!,” said Maxis.

The Sims 5 Leaks: The Next Evolution Promises a Single-player Experience on PC and Console

As of now, Maxis pointed out that work is being done on Sims 4 and Sims Next Evolution. While a single-player experience is on for PC and Console gamers, the details of what we can expect are not revealed.

While not officially announced by the developers, the Sims Community has shared multiple leaks on what players can expect with Sims 5. Since nothing has been confirmed officially, we expect everyone take this with a grain of salt.
