Ahead of the start of the IPL 2026, Delhi Capitals (DC) suffered a huge blow as the left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc is set to miss the start of the richest cricket league in the world. Starc's absence will affect the Capitals' team composition as he is the leader of the attack.

Mitchell Starc Ruled Out of Initial Part of IPL 2026

The reports suggest that Cricket Australia (CA) wants Starc, one of the best bowlers in the world, to stay fit as the upcoming season where he will play a key role. Mitchell Starc is ruled out of the initial matches of IPL 2026 and this is done in order to manage his workload. He played in the Ashes and other series as Australia's lead bowler. During the Ashes 2025-26, Starc played all the matches, which shows his commitment for Test cricket. Since there are no reports suggesting Mitchell Starc injury, he is likely to join the team.

Mitchell Starc IPL 2026 return date is not yet announced by DC or the Cricket Australia as yet. Since he is not entirely ruled out of the tournament, DC will not seek for any other replacement. Mitchell Starc workload has been a huge concern for Cricket Australia since he is an important bowler along with Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood.

DC's Matches in 1st Phase of IPL 2026

The Delhi Capitals (DC) will play their first match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 1 in Lucknow. After that, they'll play the second match on April 4 against the five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) in Delhi. DC's next match is against GT in Delhi and from there, they'll head to Chennai to play against CSK on April 11. DC will play two home games during the first phase of the tournament.
Delhi Capitals are one of the teams who have not yet won the IPL title yet. They got a solid start in the previous season, winning four out of five games. Notably, Mitchell Starc had played a vital role in the team's performances initially. However, the tables turned eventually and they failed to qualify for the playoffs.
