Why Gujarat Titans Dropped Their Leading Wicket Taker Prasidh Krishna?

Gujarat Titans have made a surprise call by dropping their star fast bowler Prasidh Krishna from the match against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk. Krishna has been amongst the best performers for GT this season and his absence left the CSK fans in shock.

GT skipper Shubman Gill won the toss and elected to field first. While announcing the team for this game, Gill revealed that Arshad Khan has come into the Playing 11 as Prasidh Krishna replacement. After the toss, GT's team sheet made it clear that Prasidh is not playing.

Why Prasidh Krishna is Not Playing Today?

During the toss, Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill didn't reveal the reason behind Prasidh Krishna's absence from the CSK vs GT IPL 2026 match. However, according to sources, Krishna has been rested due to a dip in his form recently. The GT pacer picked up 11 wickets in the first five matches but has been extremely expensive over the last two games, conceding runs at 14.16.

The decision to drop Prasidh Krishna raised questions about his fitness. However, he was seen practicing with the team ahead of the match. Hence, it can be said that his absence is more of a tactical change from the Titans team management.

Gujarat Titans will hope that the new bowling combination works for them on a slow-looking Chennai track. Arshad brings the variety with him through the left-arm angle.

Prasidh Krishna in Wicket-Taking Form

Prasidh Krishna has continued from where he left off in IPL 2025, where he was the highest wicket-taker. The tall fast bowler is amongst the top wicket takers this season and is a contender for the IPL Purple cap. His ability to bowl back of a length deliveries at unusual height has caused the much trouble to the batters, which is why he has been a prime wicket-taker in the middle overs.

Unlike the usual T20 bowling which involves bowling yorkers, Prasidh, one of the best bowlers in IPL, bowls short of a length balls with clever variations. He has picked up 12 wickets in seven matches so far with the best of 4-28. However, his economy of more than 10 runs per over is definitely a concern. While he has been dropped for this game, he is likely to be back in the mix for the upcoming matches.
