The 19th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is about to end as the playoffs are underway. This season of the IPL has been exciting for the fans, with a lot of thrilling matches taking place. However, there were many hurdles being faced by the IPL management as well as players during the season. This made the management decide that the IPL in September October window could be a perfect one, considering the hot weather during the current window of the IPL. But there is no chance that the IPL 2027 schedule will be set during the suggested phase. Let's find out the reason:

Why IPL in Sept Oct Couldn't Happen in 2027?

The Indian Premier League is usually played in the March–May window, and there are strong reasons why shifting it to September–October in 2027 is highly unlikely. It is because the 2027 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup is scheduled to take place in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia during October and November 2027. While the specific match schedule and fixtures are yet to be published by the ICC, it is confirmed that the World Cup will take place during this window.

If by any chance IPL in sept oct is scheduled in 2027, there will be a debate around the workload management of the players. The best cricketers in the world will be playing in the World Cup 2027, and with tight schedules across formats and leagues, it will be difficult for them, and there will be an increase in the risk of injuries and burnout.

The IPL in September October window is considered, as Arun Dhumal said,

We need to sit across and speak to the broadcaster for their opinion on whether the tournament can be moved to another window. One suggestion was a window in September-October. That is the best time from an advertiser’s point of view because it is just before Diwali.

When has IPL Been Played in Sept Oct Before?

The Indian Premier League, the biggest cricket league in the world, has been played in the September–October window only in special situations. The first time was in 2020, when the tournament was shifted to the UAE from September 19 to November 10 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Later, in 2021, IPL started in India in April but was stopped midway because of rising COVID cases. The remaining matches were then played in the UAE from September to October. These were exceptional cases, and apart from these two seasons, IPL has always been held in its regular March–May window.
