Major reports are coming out of the Sunrisers Hyderabad camp, with reports that Abhishek Sharma, the star opener, is set to leave the southern franchise. The left-hander has been a key part of the SRH squad over the last few years.

Ever since these reports have gone viral, there have been speculations regarding Abhishek Sharma new IPL team. The star opener is arguably one of the best T20 batsmen of this generation and has a huge fan base as well.

Will Abhishek Sharma Leave SRH?

According to the TOI, Abhishek was unhappy that Ishan Kishan was given the SRH captaincy for IPL 2026 in Pat Cummins' absence. There are also claims that he is being linked to Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans, and informal talks are in place with Punjab Kings as well.

"It's not a secret anymore that Abhishek Sharma is unhappy at SRH since the captaincy went to Ishan Kishan. He has been with the franchise for a long time and clearly had captaincy ambitions. Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Titans, and Punjab Kings were being explored as potential destinations, and we can't rule out Delhi Capitals either, since his mentor Yuvraj Singh is part of the set-up now," a source was quoted as saying by TOI.

Currently, these are still just rumors, and the Sunrisers Hyderabad CEO, K Shanmugan, has denied these claims, stating that they are not true. The statement of the SRH CEO has somewhat calmed down the fans of the Orange Army as Abhishek is one of the team's pillars. The SRH fans will hope that Abhishek Sharma IPL 2027 team doesn't change.

Why Did SRH Appoint Ishan Kishan As Captain For IPL 2026?

SRH appointed Ishan Kishan as skipper for the first half of IPL 2026 because their regular skipper, Pat Cummins, was injured and ruled out for the first half; in his place, the left-hander took on additional responsibilities. Abhishek Sharma was also in the frame for the captaincy, but Kishan got it instead.

Ishan Kishan led the team well, giving them a great start to the tournament before Pat Cummins took the reins back. He also did well with the bat, scoring 602 runs in 15 matches, including 91 off just 44 balls against Rajasthan Royals. In the game against Chennai Super Kings, SRH defended 195 with an inexperienced bowling attack. Sunrisers Hyderabad reached the Eliminator under Ishan Kishan and Pat Cummins but lost to Rajasthan Royals.

Abhishek Sharma SRH numbers are brilliant and he had another terrific season in IPL 2026. He scored 563 runs at an average of 40.21, which included a century against Delhi Capitals. He has arguably been one of the most dangerous batsmen in IPL due to his ability to destroy bowling attacks.

With Pat Cummins a doubtful starter in IPL 2027, it remains to be seen whether Ishan Kishan will retain the captaincy or whether SRH will look at Abhishek. For now, it points out to the former.
