There have been many big names who were not retained by their respective teams in IPL 2026 retentions and will be part of the IPL auction 2026. This includes Faf du Plessis, Moeen Ali, Andre Russell, and now another big name is coming to the IPL news that Glenn Maxwell opts out of the IPL Auction 2026.

In the recent development of IPL, Maxwell withdrawal IPL is big news as he has not registered for the IPL auction 2026, which tells us that he will not be part of the richest cricket league in the world for the 2026 season. This step towards his exclusion raises the possibility that he has shifted his interests to other cricket leagues around the globe, just like Faf du Plessis and Moeen Ali have preferred to play in the PSL.

However, Glenn Maxwell was not fully available in the last season of IPL while playing for Punjab Kings, where there were concerns about his fitness and injury. Though he could want a break year in the IPL and focus on bringing back his game by playing in other leagues where competition might be lower compared to the IPL. Maxwell's Instagram post stated,

OFFICIAL STATEMENT: After many unforgettable seasons in the IPL, I've decided not to put my name into the auction this year. It's a big call, and one I make with a lot of gratitude for everything this league has given me.
The IPL has helped shape me as a cricketer and as a person. I've been lucky to play with world-class teammates, represent incredible franchises, and perform in front of fans whose passion is unmatched. Glenn Maxwell has been part of the IPL for 13 seasons, being part of some of the best teams in IPL, where he started his journey with Delhi Daredevils (Now Delhi Capitals), went on to the Mumbai Indians for one season, and after that, he has been a crucial part of Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru for years.

Glenn Maxwell has played 141 matches in the IPL across the 13 seasons and has left an impact on the league with his destructive game and all-round performance. He has scored more than 2800 runs with an average of 23.88 and an impressive strike rate of 155.14. He has also done well with the ball, where he has taken 41 wickets with an economy rate of 8.29.
