Shocked Carmelo Anthony Calls Out Nikola Jokic After Nuggets Fires Coach Malone: 'That Was Some Bulls**t'

Carmelo Anthony reacts to Denver Nuggets fires Coach Malone

On Tuesday, the NBA world was greeted with a shocking news that the Denver Nuggets fired Coach Michael Malone. The Nuggets front office also informed that they will not be extending general manager Calvin Booth's contract either. These events spanned just days ahead of the playoffs, as the Nuggets still contend for a top finish in the West standings.

The trigger behind this sudden firing could be because of the Nuggets' last four outings in the regular season. Nuggets lost all four matchups in a row, and with three games left in the regular season, the team cannot risk another loss against San Francisco on April 9.

Many in the basketball fraternity, including former Nuggets legends have reacted to this shocking update. Afterall, Malone was the winningest coach in the franchise's history, having won a championship in 2023. One of the most vivid reactions was from Carmelo Anthony. Here is what Melo had to say about the firing on his podcast 7PM in Brooklyn.

Denver Nuggets fires Coach Malone: Carmelo Anthony has some tough words for Nikola Jokic

Carmelo Anthony was bewildered to hear about the firing of Coach Michael Malone. Malone coached the Denver Nuggets team to a title in 2023. Furthermore, he is also set to make the postseason with the Nuggets for the seventh consecutive year. Yet, fans and even Melo appeared bemused about the sudden firing decision from the Nuggets front office.

To rationalize the decision from his perspective, Melo started explaining how the Nuggets under Mike Malone had peaked. Malone had successfully built a winning culture at Denver, which led to many dubbing his roster as a dynasty. However, the credibility of this culture comes to test when the team enters a brief slump, despite showing overall great results.

At such situations, Melo suggests for the locker room to be the voice for the franchise. The 10x All-Star seemed rather disappointed at why Nikola Jokic did not have a proper ‘say-so’ in such a situation, as much as to confront the front office.

Opening Quote

“That's where Joker has a say so. Not saying a say-so in Mike Malone getting fired. But, now is the time, ‘If that was real, if that situation was real and our relationship was really like that and our coach-player relationship, that bond was really strong like that, I got to let the front office know that was some bulls**t.’”

Closing Quote

Under Malone, the Nuggets were continually in rise as a promising Western Conference team since 2015. While the 2023 NBA chip can be said as the pinnacle of Malone's success, the team still holds a 47-32 record in the West as of this season.

The Nuggets, however, have struggled in their last ten outings, going 3-7. Lack of key players such as Jamal Murray due to injury and the constant poor form of Russell Westbrook might be a factor. However, the exact reason for Malone's firing is still unknown while speculations remain up and galore.
