Bayern Munich's Alphonso Davies linked with Real Madrid

Real Madrid handed major blow as Alphonso Davies transfer looks almost impossible

Real Madrid’s attempts to sign Alphonso Davies this summer have been handed a massive setback as the Canadian left-back is considering extending his stay at Bayern Munich. The 23-year-old has been on the La Liga giants’ radar but Vincent Kompany’s appointment at the Allianz Arena may have turned his head.

Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg reports that Davies could opt to sign a contract extension with Bayern Munich. The Bundesliga heavyweights tabled a five-year contract offer worth €13-14 million per year, including possible bonuses. The Canada international has been pushing for €20 million per year which is why there has been a stalemate between the two parties over a renewal.

However, Vincent Kompany’s arrival at the Allianz Arena could lead to Davies deciding to stay as he features in the Belgian coach’s plans. This could put a move to Real Madrid at risk as they’ve shown interest but are yet to make an offer for the former Vancouver Rapids youngster.

Alphonso Davies was in fine form this season, registering three goals and six assists in 42 games across competitions in Bayern Munich’s trophyless campaign. He’s been a mainstay in the team over the past five years and a vital player who’s helped them win five Bundesliga titles and a UEFA Champions League trophy.

Real Madrid have long courted Davies amid question marks over Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia’s futures at the Santiago Bernabeu. Los Blancos have been weighing up a €40 million offer for the Canadian, who has already agreed personal terms with Carlo Ancelotti’s side, per Relevo. He has a year left on his contract and will be one to watch in the summer transfer window.

Real Madrid aren’t resting on their laurels despite winning the La Liga title and heading into yet another UEFA Champions League final. They face Borussia Dortmund at Wembley on Saturday (June 1) and soon after they are expected to announce the signing of arguably Europe’s deadliest frontman.

Kylian Mbappe is set to join the La Liga giants when his contract with PSG expires next month. The French superstar has long been linked with Madrid and will finally be donning Los Merengues colors next season.

L’Equipe reports that Mbappe’s arrival will be announced on Monday (June 3). He will be presented at the newly-refurbished Bernabeu after captaining France at Euro 2024. Ancelotti may be able to call upon PSG’s all-time top scorer and one of Europe’s most highly-regarded left-backs for the 2024-25 campaign.
