The Pole helped the club reach FFP rules by lowering his contract…

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has showered praise on Robert Lewandowski for his commitment to the club. He also mentioned how the Polish striker slashed his contract to keep the Blaugrana from breaching La Liga’s Financial Fair Play rules.

Signed on a €45 million fee from Bayern Munich in 2022, Lewandowski has continued his blistering run of form with the La Liga giants despite his advancing age. He’s struck 63 goals from 99 games in all competitions for the club so far, even playing an instrumental role in their league title success during his first season.

Besides his on-field contributions, Lewandowski also seem to have made an impact off it too. The 36-year-old lowered his wages in order to help the club reach the FFP regulations, and get himself registered. Laporta reserved special praise on him for that, as he said:

Opening Quote

“Lewandowski, I’ve a special mention for him. He is a player committed to the club. When he heard that we had to make some efforts to reach the Fair Play to register players, he told us he could lower his contract in order to help the club”.

Closing Quote

Lewandowski, now 36, has another two years left on his contract with the club. He has struck four goals from as many league games in the new season thus far and will be next seen in action for Barcelona on 15 September when they play Girona at home in La Liga.

Robert Lewandowski knows no stopping

Even at 36 years of age, Robert Lewandowski hasn’t showed any signs of slowing down. The Polish ace continues to fire for Barcelona and prove his value to the side. His fast start has made him the favorite for this La Liga season’s Pichichi trophy.
