Bologna Injury update as Joshua Zirkzee has been ruled out with an injury

Bologna Injury Update: Striker Zirkzee ruled out with injury

Serie A side Bologna were dealt a massive blow in their historic run to finish in a Champions League spot as striker Zirkzee was ruled out with an injury. Here is a Bologna injury update.

Striker Joshua Zirkzee’s injury was a big blow to Bologna’s aspirations

Thiago Motta’s Bologna are on the verge of a historic season. The residents of Renato Dall’ara Stadium are currently 4th in the Serie A with the business end of the season approaching. If they manage to hold onto their top four spot, for the first time since 1964 Bologna will qualify for the UEFA Champions League. Unfortunately, their aspirations were dealt a big blow with the main man Joshua Zirkzee’s injury.

Joshua Zirkzee has been absolutely sensational for Thiago Motta’s Bologna. The striker has scored an impressive 10 goals in the league while further assisting three. His contributions in front of the goal have enabled Bologna to pick up several crucial points. However, last week in Bologna’s tie against Inter Milan, the striker picked up a severe injury. Joshua’s injury was initially deemed to be extremely serious, but Bologna has provided a rather positive injury update on the striker.

Bologna Injury Update: When will Joshua Zirzkee return?

Post assessment of the injury, Bologna FC 1909 issued an official statement regarding the young striker’s injury. In the statement, Bologna confirmed that Zirkzee has sustained a first-degree lesion in the left femoral bicep. The club further added that his recovery time is expected to be three to four weeks and he will return in mid-April. While the injury update offered by Bologna reduces the amount of time he was initially expected to miss, Joshua will still be absent for some crucial ties. Bologna are set to take on Empoli, Salernitana, Frosinone, and Monza in the next few weeks. Bologna will hope that the star striker returns to the side before their crucial tie against Roma next month.

Unfortunately for the ex-Bayern Munich striker the injury will be a big blow to his dream of representing the Netherlands. The striker has been consistent in front of goal all season and was expecting his first call-up for the Netherlands. However, the injury will see the striker miss out on the upcoming international matches in March.
