Chelsea Injury Update: Mauricio Pochettino handed boost ahead of Brighton & Hove Albion clash

Mauricio Pochettino has been handed a massive boost as the latest Chelsea injury update confirms the lit is down to 4 players.

Chelsea have averaged over 9 players out injured per match this season, but things are taking a positive turn at the end of the season. Ben Chilwell is the latest player to return to full training this week.

Robert Sanchez, Carney Chukwuemeka, Wesley Fofana and Enzo Fernandez are the only players out sidelined for their trip to Brighton on Wednesday. The English midfielder could return to training later this week, but the others are ruled out for the season.

As per reports, Sanchez has a hand injury and is not expected to get fit in time for their final match against Bournemouth. The former Brighton keeper moved to Stamford Bridge last summer but has lost his #1 spot to Đorđe Petrović.

Fofana suffered an ACL injury just before Chelsea headed for pre-season and has been on the sidelines the whole season. He has returned to light training but is yet to regain full fitness.

Enzo underwent a hernia surgery last month and is getting back to training. However, he is set to sit out of the final two matches as Chelsea are unwilling to rush him back to the pitch.

Mauricio Pochettino happy with Chelsea Injury Update

Mauricio Pochettino admitted that he was delighted with the latest Chelsea injury update. The Argentine manager claimed that he was still taking time with Chilwwell, despite the club revealing that the left-back was back in training.

He told the media at a press conference on Tuesday:

“I think it was very good news last game to have so many players back on track. Chilly [Ben Chilwell] is really close but I think he’s not 100 per cent maybe to be part of the squad. Carney Chukwuemeka, also. But we need to assess if they can or cannot be part of the squad for tomorrow. If not, maybe for the weekend.”

However, he admitted that there will be no changes in the list as the ones sidelined right now will not get fit at the end of the week.

“I don’t think so because it’s now only Romeo Lavia, Enzo Fernandez, Wesley Fofana and Robert Sanchez. And that’s it. No. It is a very positive thing to finish the season with only a few players injured. It’s good news to recover the players and be positive to start the pre-season with almost all of the players fit to train.”

Chelsea face Bournemouth at home on Sunday in their final Premier League match of the season.
