‘Here we go’ – Crystal Palace set to sign Chadi Riad from Real Betis in €15 million deal

Despite staying up at the end of the 2022/23 season, Roy Hodgson struggled to get the best out of his Crystal Palace with the Eagles sitting 16th on the Premier league table by Gameweek 19. It eventually led to the English manager getting the sack with Oliver Glasner replacing Hodgson. Yet, not a lot was expected from the former Eintracht Frankfurt boss despite his success in Germany.

Opinions on him changed slightly as Glasner produced a 3-0 win in his debut game as the club’s manager but then a rocky period turned the tide back. However, the Eagles’ new coach spent that period tinkering with his formation, eventually finding the right one and things quickly changed. The Eagles shot up the table and ended the season on a six game unbeaten run, beating Liverpool and Manchester United in the process.

Fabrizio Romano confirms Crystal Palace set to sign Chadi Riad from Real Betis

In the end, the Premier League outfit finished in the top half of the table with Jean Phillipe Mateta, Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze shining in the process. But despite that, given the fact that Glasner had to use a makeshift backline, the German has since received even more plaudits. In light of that and the fact that James Tomkins and Jairo Riedewald are leaving, the club have been in talks over a new defender.

That has finally come to fruition as Fabrizio Romano has reported that a deal has now been completed with Real Betis for defender Chadi Riad. The 20-year-old signed for the La Liga side permanently in the summer of 2024 after spending a year on loan and has thrived at the club. So much so, that the young defender even earned regular call-ups to the Morocco national team.

Romano has reported that the deal is set to be worth around €14 million plus add-ons and that Riad is set to sign a five year contract, keeping him at the club until at least 2029. The Italian journalist also revealed that the defender will undergo a medical next week before the deal is officially announced.
