Fulham Transfer News 2024 Analysis and Overview

Fulham is one of the most prominent clubs in the top tier of English football, the Premier League. Founded in 1879, the club has been a part of the footballing ecosystem in England across various levels before finding its feet at the top division and becoming a mainstay since 2022.

Over the years, Fulham has scouted and fielded some top, top talents who have gone on to play for the bigger teams in the League. Whilst the club itself has seen some success throughout its history, its recent progress along with a well-set-up way of functioning means that Fulham makes for one of the most promising football teams in the world at the moment.

According to Forbes, Fulham comes in at a respectable 24th position among the world’s most valuable football teams. Additionally, the club is said to have recorded a gross revenue of £182.3million ($230.4m) in 2023, which is a sure-shot proof of the club’s growing stature. Whilst the team has become a decent side in the Premier League, they are making gradual moves and developments toward becoming a top-10 team and going on to challenge for a European spot as well.

Fulham Transfers Club Performance History

For the most part, Fulham started their journey playing in the regional Southern League prior to the formation of the English First Division. Having found minor success in these times, the club was a contender for becoming a shoo-in for the First Division. That said, the club spent most of its years on the outside of the top flight, with some disappointing seasons seeing them doomed to the depths of English football.

After years in and out of the top flight, the club failed to be a part of the Premier League following its inception in 1992. That said, the club managed to break into the top promotion at the turn of the century in 2001, and in the late 2010s found a fair amount of success in the League before going on to challenge for a Europa League, narrowly losing out to Atletico Madrid in the final. That said, the late 2010s brought new ownership and once again saw the club drop in and out of the Premier League before finally managing to get a stable footing in the league in 2022.

In their first season back, the club finished at a respectable 10th, before falling to 13th in 2023-2024. Despite their obvious shortcomings, recent Fulham sides have shown a bit of quality and technical ability that puts them well above the middle-of-the-pack sides and on rare occasions, pull off the odd upset against one of the League’s top dogs. All things considered, the club has started well in the new season, with signs of life and potential contention for European spots on the cards.

Fulham Transfer 2024 Challenges & criticisms

For the most part, Fulham is a team that has been known to be forced into parting ways with top talent in order to keep themselves afloat. During their time in the Premier League, the club has let go of many talented players who have gone on to achieve great things with bigger sides. That said, Fulham has somehow managed to keep bringing in new and adequate talent that has gone on to do a good job for them and earn a big move in the process.

Recent seasons have seen The Cottagers slightly struggle owing to their squad consisting mainly of older players coming to the end of their careers. As such, there seemed to be a certain focus on bringing in players that were more to help them in the short term, rather than young talents that could be honed into special players. That said, under the stewardship of Marco Silva, this has started to change with the club now investing in younger talents and decreasing the average age of the squad significantly.

In recent years, Fulham have started away from trying to uncover hidden gems and hoping to turn them into superstars. Rather, their recruitment has been more focused on finding young and hungry players who are ready and willing to prove themselves in the League. Thus, the recruitment in their latest transfer window has yielded them two out of five of the most expensive transfers in the club’s history.

Fulham Transfer Strategy and Philosophy

All things considered, Fulham’s transfer philosophy has been very straightforward from the get-go. Owing to its capable scouting system, the club has managed to recruit talents from across Europe and the rest of the world and implement them in its system.

Whilst some of their players have moved on to the Premier League and other teams across the globe, Fulham has continued to bring in new talent to replace them and continue playing with the same level of consistency or better. Notably, Fulham has also managed to bring in a number of English talent over the years, showing their ability to identify and integrate homegrown talent as well.

Most Expensive Fulham Transfers

By and large, Fulham is not a club that looks to spend big money on signings but rather focuses on identifying targets that they can acquire for a suitable fee, without having to pay over the odds. As such it will be surprising to many tha the club’s record signings have all been under €32 million. With that said, let’s take a look at some of the club’s most expensive transfers.

Coming in at #1 is former Arsenal starlet Emile Smith-Rowe, secured for a nifty €31.80m in the 2024-2025 summer window. The second name on the list is Jean Michaël Seri acquired from OGC Nice for €30.00 million in 2018-2019. Next on the list is another new signee in Joachim Andersen, signed from Crystal Palace for €29.50m.

Other names on the list include Alex Iwobi from Everton secured for €25.70m last season whilst João Palhinha was brought in from Sporting CP for €24.90m in 2022. Notably, Palhinha is one of the club’s record departures as well, picked up by Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich for €51.00m in the summer.

Fulham Transfer New Signings 2024/25

As mentioned previously, some of Fulham’s most expensive transfers have taken place in the 2024-2025 summer window which saw the arrival of some known quantities and some up-and-coming talents. During the window, the club splurged €91.55m on transfers which has yielded them decent results in the Premier League this season.

Up first is the aforementioned Emile Smith-Rowe, brought in for a reasonable €31.80m from Arsenal. Alongside him, Fulham brought in Joachim Andersen from Crystal Palace for €29.50m for his second stint at Craven Cottage. Another one of their notable signings includes Sander Berge secured from Burnley for €23.55m.

Further, the likes of Jorge Cuenca, Ryan Sessegnon, and Reiss Nelson were brought in from Villareal, Tottenham, and Arsenal respectively. Whilst Cuenca was secured for €6.70m, Sessegnon was a free signing and Nelson arrived on loan without an option to buy.

Fulham Transfers All Outgoing 2024/25

Naturally, Fulham also had a lot to do in terms of making room for their new signings and moving on players who had lost their place in the team or needed to be moved on. As such there was a lot of work to be done and the manager seems to be content with what he has ended up with.

For one, João Palhinha was allowed to leave for Bayern Munich and fetched the club a sizeable €51.00m. The next one out was Jay Stansfield who departed to Birmingham for €17.80m. At the same time, Tosin Adarabioyo, Bobby De Cordova-Reid, Kevin Mbabu, Willian, Marek Rodák, and Tim Ream all departed on free transfers.

Top Signings for Fulham in 2024/25

All things considered, it is still quite early in the season with a lot of games yet to be played. That said, Fulham currently sits in 10th place and has been a bit of a mixed bag for the most part. Despite a few impressive wins, their uncharacteristic loss to Wolves showed that the team is yet to find their chemistry and gel together.

Whilst the likes of Smith-Rowe, Andersen, Berge, and Reiss Nelson have become regular starters in the team, Jorge Cuenca and Ryan Sessegnon have been mostly utilized as fringe players and brought in much more sparingly.

Worst Signings for Fulham in 2024/25

By all means, Fulham is doing fairly decently in the Premier League with some of their new arrivals playing a big role in the club’s limited successes so far. That said, they have managed to link up well with some of the previous arrivals, who have grown into the team over the past season, making for a very capable team overall.

Whilst it is still early doors and a lot of games are still to be played, there is good energy around Craven Cottage and some good football on display. If things continue in an upward trajectory, the team could be well on course for matching its record-highest league standing of seventh place.

Fulham transfer Spend Till Now

As mentioned previously, it was a busy summer transfer window for Fulham with a number of new signings and departures. in terms of expenditure, the club shelling out €91.55m in transfer fees while managing to recoup €68.80m, making for their highest-ever incoming, exceeding that of last season by a fair bit.

With that said, it remains to be seen whether these numbers see any change during the January transfer window with incomings or players being sold or sent out on loan.

Fulham deadline day: Jay Stansfield joins Championship side on a permanent deal; Reiss Nelson’s move secured

Premier League club Fulham’s forward, Jay Stansfield has joined EFL Championship side Birmingham City on a permanent deal during the 2024 summer transfer window’s deadline day.

Stansfield played alongside Raul Jiminez in Fulham’s front line for their Carabao Cup second-round game against Birmingham at St. Andrews. The 21-year-old scored the first goal for the match for Marco Silva’s side, contributing to their 0-2 win.

After scoring the goal, Jay Stansfield didn’t celebrate and held his hands up in acknowledgment, maybe signaling he is close to securing a potential permanent move to Birmingham City.

Meanwhile, the Cottagers have also secured a loan move for winger Reiss Nelson from Arsenal on deadline day. Nelson will be with Marco Silva’s side for the entire spell of the 2024-25 season.

Fulham’s Rayan Cherki dilemma continues to gather heat

As per ‘Evening Standard‘, Premier League club Fulham agreed upon a fee in the region of £17 million with Ligue 1 side Lyon to sign attacking midfielder Rayan Cherki.

It looked like Cherki would be the other player that the Cottagers would be adding to their squad amidst the arrival of Sander Berge and Joachim Anderson from Burnley and Crystal Palace respectively.

However, things hit a bit of a roadblock on Marco Silva’s side pursuit for Rayan Cherki as ‘One Football‘ laid out that the attacking midfielder is ‘not interested’ in a move to Fulham.

So, as it turns out despite Fulham agreeing upon a transfer fee with Lyon, due to the 21-year-old French player’s reluctance a transfer hasn’t materialized yet. It remains to be seen if Cherki does change his mind before the window closes.

Joachim Anderson completes Fulham move

Premier League club Fulham has completed the transfer move for defender Joachim Anderson from Crystal Palace on a five-year deal. As per ‘Sky Sports’, the transfer has cost the Cottagers a monetary sum of around £30 million (excluding any potential add-ons).

Anderson has of course played for Fulham before on a loan spell. His arrival back to the London-based club on a permanent basis will provide Marco Silva’s side with defensive solidity and options to progress ahead in the ongoing Premier League season.

Fulham looked a bit lite in the defensive department ever since the departure of Tosin Adarabioyo to Chelsea earlier this window.

Joachim Anderson is expected to be competing with players like Calvin Bassey, and Issa Diop straightaway for a place in the starting line-up.

Fulham reach agreement to sign Crystal Palace’s defender: Report

According to renowned football Journalist ‘David Ornstein’ from ‘The Athletic’, Fulham has an agreement in place with London-based Premier League rivals Crystal Palace to sign defender Joachim Anderson.

The report signifies that the Eagles have toned down their asking price for Anderson a bit and a deal in the region of about £30 million (including add-ons) is agreed upon between both Fulham and Palace at this point in time.

Both clubs are now reportedly working to get this move over the line by looking into the final aspects of the transfer.

Marco Silva’s Fulham has been extensively linked with a potential transfer for Joachim Anderson in the ongoing summer transfer window. Now, it seems like the Cottagers have finally managed to convince Crystal Palace’s hierarchy for the defender’s signing.

It remains to be seen how Silva slots in Anderson in his plans at the Craven Cottage. Since the departure of Tosin Adarabioyo to Chelsea in the window, Fulham’s defensive options did look quite restricted.

Calvin Bassey and Issa Diop started for Marco Silva’s side against Man United in the back four in their opening game of the 2024-25 Premier League season.

With the solid performances that Joachim Anderson delivered in the last campaign with Crystal Palace, he would certainly push Marco Silva’s instincts for a place in the starting eleven.

Blackburn Rovers shortlist Fulham’s striker to fill Szmodics’ void

As per a recent report by ‘The 72‘, Premier League club Fulham’s striker Jay Stansfield is on the radar of EFL Championship club Blackburn Rovers. The Championship side recently sold their star striker Szmodics to Ipswich Town.

The report stated that Blackburn is actively on the lookout for a striker option and will try to get somebody in at that position before the window shuts. However, the club will likely face competition from Stoke City (also interested – via Football Insider) and Birmingham City to land Stansfield.

‘The 72’ has laid out that Fulham’s striker could be available for a fee of around £6 million (via – Journalist Nixon) despite his contract at the Cottagers running till June 2027.

It is quite understandable as Marco Silva is currently juggling between Rodrigo Muniz and Raul Jiminez as his striker options for the first team. Stansfield spent last season on loan at Birmingham City.

Fulham exit confirmed by Willian after saying no to contract extension: Report

Brazilian winger Willian has officially left Premier League club Fulham. As per a report by ‘The Athletic‘, the 36-year-old was offered a new contract by the Cottagers at the end of the 2023-24 season, but he chose not to consider that and made intentions clear to keep an eye out for other alternatives.

The contract-extension offer was reportedly ‘still on the table’ for the winger for quite some time ahead of Fulham’s trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester United in their opening game of the season. Willian hadn’t been a part of Marco Silva’s side pre-season and will be considered to have officially departed the club on July 1.

Prior to the United game, the Brazilian took to his official Instagram account to announce his Fulham exit.

The Brazilian wrote – “I would like to thank Fulham for a wonderful two years. It was special to return to the Premier League and be part of this historic club and the amazing fans. I have had incredible moments and this club will always be in my heart.”

Willian made 27 appearances for the Cottagers in the 2022-23 Premier League season, registering 10 goal contributions (5 goals and 5 assists). In the following campaign of 2023-2024, the 36-year-old played 31 matches and had 6 goal contributions (4 goals and 2 assists) to his name.

It remains to be seen where Willian’s professional football career goes from here after marking his Fulham exit.

Fulham continue their chase for Joachim Anderson

According to a report by ‘SportsMole‘, backed by ‘The Athletic’, after seeing their initial bid of around £20 million waved off by Crystal Palace in regards to signing Joachim Anderson, Fulham has reportedly returned with an improved bid in the region of £25 million in an attempt to land the player before the transfer window shuts.

Report had it that, the Cottagers are also willing to add a mere sum of £5 million as add-ons in their improved second bid for Anderson.

Fulham and Marco Silva have seen defensive options like Tosin Adarabioyo, and Tim Ream depart the club so far in this window to Chelsea and Charlotte FC respectively. So on paper, they do look in need of strengthening that area of the pitch leading into the new season.

The above point still prevails even though they have recently signed center-back Jorge Cuenca from La Liga’s Villarreal.

Tim Ream to leave Fulham after 9 seasons

United States defender Tim Ream is set to leave Fulham after spending nine seasons at the club. He will join Major League Soccer side Charlotte FC.

The centre-back has signed a contract until 2026, and Charlotte said that he will always be a fan of Fulham. He added, “The memories made, the connections formed, and the people I met along the way have made my time at Fulham more than special.”

Fulham are open on possibility of acquiring Diego Carlos from Aston Villa

Fulham are serious about signing Diego Carlos from Aston Villa. The Cottagers have held initial talks of securing the centre back’s signature in order to reinforce their squad for the upcoming season.

Lyall Thomas from SkySports reported that the Craven Cottage-based side are not the only suitors for the player. However, Sky also added that Fulham lead the chase of Carlos and are willing to sell the player in this transfer window.

Villa, on the other hand, are open to sell Carlos to gain more cash as a preparation for the Champions League this year. Selling the Brazilian is believed to give them more “breathing space” while strengthening their squad on other posts. (source: SkySports)

Breaking: Fulham agrees a deal to sign Villarreal defender

According to ‘Fabrizio Romano’, Premier League club Fulham has struck a deal with La Liga side Villarreal to sign Spanish defender Jorge Cuenca. A final agreement is in place between both clubs and the center-back is imminent to join the Craven Cottage-based team in the ongoing summer transfer window.

The financial details of the deal are yet to be revealed on an official note. However, Romano has asserted that Jorge Cuenca is ‘set to travel’ to London for his scheduled medical at Fulham. The 24-year-old will reportedly sign a five-year contract deal with the Premier League club running till June 2029.

The center-back would become Fulham’s second signing this window after earlier the Cottagers poached Emile Smith-Rowe from Arsenal.
