Spanish FA Unconcerned by German Law in Yamal’s Match Against Georgia in EURO 2024: Reports

Personnel at RFEF hinted towards receiving a nod from UEFA regarding the situation of Lamine Yamal

The Spain National Football Team was able to register a thumping 4-1 victory over Georgia in their UEFA Euro 2024 round of 16 fixture played at the RheinEnergieStadoin. With goals from Rodri, Fbiana Ruiz, Nico Williams, and Dani Olmo, Spain was able to cruise past Georgia. However, leading into the game, a certain German law resulted in a few doubts over the participation of Spain’s winger Lamine Yamal in the match.

The particular German law in contention enlists that minors (below 18 years of age) are not allowed as per the law to wait beyond 11 PM in the country. Spain’s Lamine Yamal did come under this category. However, potential concerns would have come across for the Spanish Football Federation if their round of 16 fixture against Georgia needed to go into extra time, as that could have broken the specific law had those extra minutes featured the 17-year-old winger as well.

However as published by ‘Football Espana’, ‘MundoDeportivo had a word with internal sources at the RFEF (Royal Spanish Football Federation) and they weren’t concerned by the situation too much. The report also hinted toward the Spanish Federation getting an “OK” from the UEFA regarding the scenario before the tournament even started. As it turned out the match didn’t go into the extra time, and Lamine Yamal did play the entire 90 minutes plus the added injury time.
