The Duleep Tournament is a first-class cricket contest where the teams are divided into the various geographical zones of India, which are North, South, East, West, and Central. Though there have been few expectations in the tournaments over the years, where the regular Zonal format was not being followed, like back in the 2002-2003 edition of the tournament, where the teams were based on the Ranji Trophy Groups. The teams were named Elite Group A, Elite Group B, Elite Group C, Plate Group A, Plate Group B, Plate Group C.
The back-to-back four editions of the Duleep Trophy 2016-17, 2017-18, 2018-2019, 2019-2020 also did not follow the traditional Zonal format, where the Teams were named India Red, India Blue, and India Green, which were selected by the The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to showcase top talents in domestic cricket for the national team. The traditional Zonal format was again changed in the previous 2024 edition of the tournament, where the teams were named India A, India B, India C, and India D.
The first-ever Duleep Trophy final was between the South Zone and West Zone, where the West Zone won the game by 10 wickets with the help of India's legendary right-arm off spinner Polly Umrigar took 6 wickets in the first innings and led the West Zone to become the inaugural champions of the Duleep Trophy.
In the Previous edition of the Duleep Trophy 2024, India A won the tournament after defeating India C in the finals by 132 runs, where middle-order batter Shashwat Rawat was named Player of the Match after scoring an incredible 124 runs in the first innings and 53 runs in the second innings.
Duleep Trophy Winners (Zonal Format)
As mentioned above, the Duleep Trophy always followed the traditional Zonal format with a few exceptions over the years. In the Zonal Format, the five featured zones are the North Zone, the South Zone, the East Zone, the West Zone, and the Central Zone. The North Zone has won most of the time with 17 titles to its name, while the second place was acquired by the West Zone, which is just behind the North Zone with 16 titles. South Zone is in third place with 12 titles. Central Zone is in 4th place with 5 titles. While the East Zone is currently residing at the bottom of the list with 2 titles, 4 finals of the Duleep Trophy were ended in a tie.
As mentioned above, the West Zone was the first ever winner of the Zonal format, which played against the South Zone and won by 10 wickets. On the other hand, South Zone won the last Zonal format of the tournament, against the West Zone by 75 runs back in July 2023.

Duleep Trophy Winners 2002-2003 (Elite and Plate Group)
As mentioned above, back in the 2002-2003 edition of the Duleep Trophy, the tournament did not follow the traditional Zonal format of the tournament, and the teams' names were Elite Group A, Elite Group B, Elite Group C, Plate Group A, Plate Group B, Plate Group C, where the teams were based on the Ranji Trophy Groups. Elite C won the tournament after ending up at the top of the points table with 21 points. They played 4 games in the tournament, and 3 of them ended in a draw, and they won 1 of them against Plate A by 9 wickets with the help of right-arm medium fast bowler Siddharth Trivedi, who took a total of 8 wickets in the match, and led his team to a victory.

Duleep Trophy Winners 2016-2019 (India Red, India Blue, and India Green)
After more than a decade, for four back-to-back editions of the Duleep Trophy from 2016 to 2019, the tournament was played in a format other than the Zonal, as the teams were named India Red, India Blue and India Green, which were directly selected by the BCCI to determine the top talents in the Indian domestic cricket for the who could be the top and potential players who will represent India national team in the future. India Red and India Blue both won 2-time each, while India Green did not win the single title during those four editions of the Duleep Trophy.
India Blue won the 2016-17 edition of the Duleep Trophy against India Red by a massive margin of 355 runs on September 10th 2016, after an outstanding innings by one of the best Test batters in the world, Cheteshwar Pujara, who scored a brilliant 256 runs, including 28 boundaries.
While India Red won the last cup in this format against India Green back on September 4 2019, by an innings and 38 runs, with the help of an outstanding knock from top order batter Abhimanyu Easwaran, who smashed 153 in the game and led his team to a victory.
