The venture has been shut down due to non-payment of rent, with dues reportedly exceeding ₹2 crore.

3 Reasons Why Virat Kohli Leaves One8 Commune

With Virat Kohli One8 Restaurant being in the news, it has made many wonder as to why one8 commune owner Virat Kohli pulled out of the venture. However, the reasons behind that are known. As per the reports in India Today, the major reason behind Virat Kohli distancing himself from the venture was repeated compliance issues and notices over alleged fire safety violations in recent years. This came after a case was filed against One 8 commune under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) for failing to provide a designated smoking zone on the premises.

Not only this, but the One 8 Commune also defaulted on rent for nearly six months, along with pending maintenance charges and revenue share. This made the building owner complain against Trio Hills Hospitality, which operated the restaurant, and move the case to civil court.

Another reason for Kohli’s exit from the brand was the number of complaints the outlet had received multiple notices from the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) for regulatory violations. Also, there was a case against the restaurant for operating beyond permitted hours and working without a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Fire Department.

One8 Commune Loss After Virat Kohli’s Exit

The reports also claimed that after Virat Kohli’s exit from the venture, the business faced a lot of losses. The restaurant will now remain closed until outstanding payments are settled, as per court directions. Talking about One8 Commune, it is a premium restaurant and bar chain founded by Virat Kohli with restaurants in cities like Delhi (Aerocity), Gurugram, Pune, Kolkata, Noida, Bengaluru and Hyderabad. The Bengaluru branch was inaugurated in December 2023.
