India's star batter Abhishek Sharma is having a great time in his international cricket career. The No. 1-ranked T20I batter in the world has been consistently scoring runs at a magnificent strike rate, helping the Indian team win crucial matches.

Recently, Team India clashed against New Zealand in the third match of the ongoing five-match T20I series in Guwahati on Sunday. Once again, Abhishek Sharma was the one stealing the headlines with his destructive batting, almost equaling former India legend Yuvraj Singh's iconic record in the T20I format.

Abhishek Sharma Creates Another Record

The left-handed opener was at his very best during the IND vs NZ 3rd T20I, smashing a 14-ball fifty, the second fastest half-century by an Indian, while the fourth fastest overall. The No. 1 player in the list of fastest fifty in T20I for India is former legendary cricketer Yuvraj Singh, who smashed a half-century off just 12 balls during the unforgettable India vs England T20 World Cup 2007 match.

It is the famous match when the GOAT of cricket, Yuvraj Singh, smashed six sixes in an over off Stuart Broad. It's been 19 years since that knock but the record still stays. Abhishek Sharma fastest fifty record will also please Yuvraj since he is his mentor as well.

Abhishek Sharma Speaks on Yuvraj Singh's Record

Abhishek Sharma, one of the best T20 batsmen in the world, remained unbeaten in the match, scoring 68 runs off just 20 balls at an unbelievable strike rate of 340, which included seven fours and five sixes. After the match, Abhishek spoke about nearing Yuvraj's record during the post-match presentation and said:

“That's more than impossible for anyone, but still, you never know. Any batsman could do it because I think all the batters have been batting really well in this series as well and going forward, it's going to be fun.”

Abhishek Sharma's quickfire knock helped India chase down the 154-run target in just 10 overs, winning the match by 8 wickets. With this win, the Men in Blue have also sealed the five-match T20I series with an unassailable 3-0 lead.

The fourth match of the series will be played on January 28 in Visakhapatnam, and there are high chances of Abhishek being rested for the remaining two matches, ahead of the much-awaited T20 World Cup 2026.
