The Indian Cricket Team have faced a big blow amid the ODI series against the New Zealand Cricket Team. All-rounder Washington Sundar has been ruled out for the rest of the two matches to be played on January 14 and January 18. Washington Sundar faced a side strain during the first ODI against New Zealand. The match between the two teams took place at the BCA stadium in Vadodara on Sunday, January 11. After bowling just five overs, the all-rounder felt some discomfort.

Washington Sundar had to walk off the field, and he didn’t return to take the field. He came out to bat when the team needed him, but he struggled with his running. Later, captain Shubman Gill confirmed that Sundar has suffered a side strain and will undergo scans. After undergoing scans, Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the IND vs NZ ODI Series 2026. The development was confirmed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The governing body confirmed that he has faced a left lower rib injury.

BCCI Adds Ayush Badoni as Washington Sundar Replacement

The news of the inclusion of Ayush Badoni New Zealand ODI Series has made headlines as Washington Sundar’s replacement. The Delhi all-rounder will soon join the team ahead of the second game in Rajkot. Ayush Badoni ODI Squad selection is a big step in the career of the young cricketer.

“The Men’s Selection Committee has named Ayush Badoni as his replacement. Badoni will link up with the squad in Rajkot, the venue for the second ODI,” stated BCCI.

Ayush Badoni was part of the India A squad for the ODIs against South Africa A. He had a decent outing with the bat in the only ODI he played, slamming 65 runs. In the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26, he hasn’t had many opportunities to bat, but has taken four wickets. He would be keen to make the most of the opportunity in the IND vs NZ ODI Series 2026 and seal his spot in the team, and is looking forward to becoming one of the best batsman in India in the future.
