Azhar’s exit is due to a long period of growing disagreements between him and the board. It is said that tensions reportedly peaked after Sarfaraz Ahmed was said to have been appointed, though not officially announced, to lead the Pakistan Shaheens and Under-19 teams, with responsibilities that included overseeing tours and running training camps.

It is believed that Azhar was unhappy with Sarfaraz Ahmed being named head of the Pakistan Shaheens and the U-19 teams. The move made it seem as though Azhar’s own duties were being placed on the same level as Sarfaraz’s, which he reportedly felt was unfair.
