Bangladesh Squad for Asia Cup 2025

With the Asia Cup 2025 approaching, the cricket boards across the continent have started announcing their squads for the tournament. Some of the participating teams are yet to finalize their squads, while some of them have already announced their Asia Cup 2025 squads, including Pakistan and India.

The tournament is scheduled to take place from September 9 to 28 in the United Arab Emirates. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has now announced its 16-member squad for the tournament. Bangladesh will also play a three-match T20I series against the Netherlands starting on August 30 in Sylhet as preparation for the Asia Cup.

Bangladesh Asia Cup Squad Announced

The squad features a mix of experienced players and young talents, aiming to continue Bangladesh’s recent positive run in T20Is, including victories over Sri Lanka and Pakistan. While the Bangladesh Asia Cup squad includes several familiar faces, one notable surprise addition is the return of wicket-keeper batter Nurul Hasan, who last played a T20I for Bangladesh three years ago. His recall is aimed at bringing experience to the middle order and adding depth to Bangladesh’s batting lineup ahead of the tournament.

Litton Das has been appointed as the captain for the Bangladesh Asia Cup 2025 squad. He recently led the team to a series win against Pakistan and Sri Lanka, showcasing his leadership and consistent batting form. Litton has been a key player for Bangladesh in the T20 format and has amassed over 1000 runs in the format, playing at a strike rate of 125. He has established himself among the most important players in Bangladesh and is also one of the best wicketkeepers in the world currently.

Under his captaincy, Bangladesh have developed a more aggressive approach, especially in the powerplay overs. Das has proven to be a dependable middle-order batter, capable of anchoring innings and also accelerating the run rate when required. In recent international tournaments, he has added key performances with both bat and gloves, helping the team secure important wins.

Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mehidy Hasan Miraz OUT

Former captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz have not been included in the Bangladesh squad for Asia Cup 2025, which indicates that the selectors have focused more on players who are currently in strong form and also have the potential to shine. Despite being one of the best all-rounders in the world, Miraz didn't get picked in this squad.

Before the Asia Cup begins, Bangladesh will also play a three-match T20I series against the Netherlands on August 30, September 1, and September 3 in Sylhet. This series will provide crucial match practice for the squad and help the skipper Litton identify their best playing XI combination ahead of their Asia Cup 2025 campaign, which starts against Hong Kong in Abu Dhabi.

In addition to the changes in the squad and leadership, Nurul Hasan’s recall is the highlight of the squad announcement. The 31-year-old wicketkeeper batter will finally make it to the team after a long wait of 3 years. He last appeared for Bangladesh in the 2022 ICC T20 World Cup in Australia. His recent performance in domestic cricket and with Bangladesh A earned him this long-awaited return to the squad. Saif Hassan also rejoins the national T20I setup after last playing in the 2023 Asian Games.
