Faruque Ahmed BCB Tenure as President

Faruque Ahmed's tenure as the BCB president was short-lived as he was removed from the role just a few months ago. The Sports Ministry of Bangladesh removed him from the BCB's board of directors and stated that it was a decision of a no-confidence motion from the other board of directors.

The directors out serious accusations on Faruque of running the country's cricket in an autocratic way. They pointed to a clause of BCB's constitution which stated that the permission of the board of directors need to be taken before hiring or sacking the coaches. It is believed that Ahmed had earlier removed Bangladesh's former coach Chandika Hathurusingha without consulting the board of directors. Later, Faruque Ahmed dismissed all the claims put against him.

Faruque Ahmed played 7 ODIs for Bangladesh from 1988-1999. The right-handed batter scored 105 runs in international cricket at an average of 15. He has also played 5 first-class matches and 21 List A matches in his professional career. He also became the captain during his playing days and served as the national selector twice.

Later, he became the first Bangladesh cricketer to become the BCB president. He took over the role from the former president Nazmul Hassan Papon, who had fled the country following the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government. However, Faruque's tenure lasted just nine months and eight days and ended in a bitter way.
