The demand gained traction on social media and was first tweeted by journalist Vikrant Gupta on X. On March 8, 2026, Team India secured their third T20 World Cup trophy, beating New Zealand by 96 runs at one of the world's largest stadiums, Narendra Modi Stadium.

Importance of the Indian Cricket Week

Indian fans' support for cricket is incredible and unmatched. It's by far the most popular sport in India, boasting an estimated 120-130 million active followers and accounting for 65-90% of the country's total sports viewership. Cricket drives massive engagement, with 2025 IPL matches attracting 60-80 million viewers per game.

Now, this fervor has pushed the BCCI to take the bold decision to unite all Indian cricket fans in celebrating "Indian Cricket Week" during March.
