Bhuvneshwar Kumar International Return Confirmed, Set to Play On This Date

Bhuvneshwar Kumar

Veteran Indian cricketer Bhuvneshwar Kumar is set to make his India comeback. The star pacer will be seen playing in the upcoming white-ball assignment. The development comes after a strong IPL 2026 season, during which his performances for Royal Challengers Bengaluru reignited the debate around his international future.

The 36-year-old last represented India in November 2022, making his potential return particularly significant. In this article, we will find out the international return date of one of the best bowlers in the world, Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar India Return

Bhuvneshwar Kumar is set to feature in the India T20I squad for NZ tour 2026, ending a four-year wait for another appearance in India colours. His last T20I came against one of the best cricket teams in the world, New Zealand, in Napier in November 2022.

The Bhuvneshwar Kumar international return comes after the seamer enjoyed an impressive IPL campaign with one of the best teams in IPL, Royal Challengers Bengaluru. His ability to swing the new ball, control the death overs and use his experience effectively has brought him back into selection discussions.

There have been growing calls for his recall in recent months. Ravichandran Ashwin publicly backed him earlier this year, while Hanuma Vihari also recently urged selectors to consider Bhuvneshwar after India's bowling struggles against West Indies.

Bhuvneshwar himself has repeatedly maintained that he remains ready if the selectors come calling. He said last month that he was “absolutely ready” for another opportunity, while stressing that selection remains outside his control. As the news is confirmed, it would mark a notable Bhuvneshwar Kumar India return and give the T20I setup an experienced option ahead of the next major phase of the international calendar.

India’s T20I Squad: Shreyas Iyer [C], Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson [WK], Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Ishan Kishan [WK], Tilak Varma [VC], Axar Patel, Shivam Dube, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Naman Dhir, Prince Yadav, Mayank Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Varun Chakaravarthy, Kuldeep Yadav

Bhuvneshwar Kumar To Appear In Hong Kong Sixes

Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s return to the India setup will begin with an important tournament. The veteran pacer has been named captain of India’s squad for the 2026 Hong Kong Sixes, which will be played from October 30 to November 1. He will lead a star-studded group featuring Krunal Pandya, Shashank Singh, Rahul Tewatia, Nitish Rana, Rahul Tripathi and T Natarajan.
The six-a-side tournament will give Bhuvneshwar another opportunity to represent India after his four-year international absence. Interestingly, his Hong Kong Sixes stint comes alongside his confirmed recall to India’s T20I squad for the upcoming New Zealand tour.
