Breaking! Star Batter Set To Be Ruled Out of IND vs SL Test Series

Sri Lanka's star cricketer Kusal Mendis is all set to be ruled out of the upcoming Test series against India. Mendis, who is one of the best batsmen in the world, is a key player for Sri Lanka across formats.

Earlier, the wicketkeeper-batter was ruled out of the ongoing season of Lanka Premier League (LPL). There were doubts over his participation for the SL vs IND Test series and it is believed that he has been ruled out of the first match now.

Kusal Mendis Ruled Out of IND vs SL Test Series

According to a renowned source Danushka Aravinda, Kusal Mendis can be ruled out of the initial part of the Test series against India. Mendis suffered a hamstring injury during the Lanka Premier League while playing for Colombo Kings.

The reports claim that Mendis has still not fully recovered from this injury and might be ruled out of the SL vs IND 1st Test at Galle. However, it has not been made official by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) as of now.

Kusal Mendis injury can prove to be a massive blow for the home side as they aim to win their first Test series against India in 18 years. The right-hander is not just an important batter for his team but also a safe wicketkeeper. While he is unlikely for the first match, Sri Lanka will hope that Mendis gets fit for the second Test to be played at Colombo.

Who Will Replace Kusal Mendis?

With Kusal Mendis likely to be unavailable, the Sri Lanka team management will be looking for a new wicketkeeper. Nishan Madushka seems to be the frontrunner to take up the role of Kusal Mendis replacement with Lahiru Udara also in the mix.

If the selectors opt for experience, Niroshan Dickwella and Sadeera Samarawickrama can also be the options. However, replacing Mendis won't be easy as he is one of the best wicketkeepers in the world.

The first Test between Sri Lanka and India will be played from August 15 at Galle, the primary venue for red-ball cricket in the country. Both teams are likely to be stacked with quality spin bowling options, making this series a highly anticipated one for the fans.
