Conspiracy Against Vaibhav Suryavanshi? Shreyas Iyer Favors IPL Teammate Suryansh Shedge

The second T20I between India and Ireland at Belfast was highly-anticipated amongst the fans as they expected the debut of the young teenage batting sensation, Vaibhav Suryavanshi.

However, Shreyas Iyer shocked everyone at the toss ahead of the IRE vs IND 2nd T20I when he announced about Suryansh Shedge India debut ahead of Vaibhav Suryavanshi. This led to various social media claims about conspiracy against Vaibhav Suryavanshi that blamed Iyer of favoring his IPL and domestic teammate Shedge.

It is to be noted that Suryansh Shedge has shared the dressing room with Shreyas Iyer on quite a few occasions. Apart from playing for the same IPL team Punjab Kings, both represent Mumbai in domestic cricket as well.

Did Shreyas Iyer Favor Suryansh Shedge Over Vaibhav Suryavanshi?

Despite random social media claims, there is no proof that Shreyas Iyer has favored Suryansh Shedge for being his teammate in the IPL and domestic cricket. The move to play Suryansh Shedge ahead of Vaibhav Suryavanshi was likely made by the Indian team management considering the requirements for this game.

Since the Men in Blue needed a lower order batter instead of someone who can play in the top order, Shedge, one of the best all-rounders in India, was preferred despite all the eyes on Suryavanshi's debut. Just like Suryavanshi, Shedge is also immensely talented and proved himself in IPL 2026.

The talented all-rounder scored 158 runs at an average of 39.50 and a strike rate of more than 175. He didn't start the season but got his chance midway and later on, became a vital player for Punjab Kings, who missed out on the playoffs by a slight margin.

Under Shreyas Iyer, Mumbai won the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024 title, where Suryansh Shedge had played a key role with his big-hitting abilities. Having captained Shedge in these games, Iyer is well aware of his skills, which might have played a role in his selection.

When Will Vaibhav Suryavanshi Make India Debut?

Vaibhav Suryavanshi's India debut will have to wait as there was no place for him in the playing 11 in this series. The left-hander has all the qualities to become one of the best batsmen in the world in future, but the competition for places in India's top order means that he will have to wait for his chance.

However, it is expected that he might be included in the playing 11 during India's upcoming tour of England. If he makes his debut there, he will be the youngest Indian to make his international debut, surpassing the great Sachin Tendulkar.
