Mitchell’s absence is a significant setback for New Zealand, given his recent form and his role as a stabilising presence in the batting lineup. To fill the vacancy left by Daryl Mitchell injury, Henry Nicholls has been kept with the squad after he was called up to the playing group on Monday.
He could be featured in the 2nd ODI in Napier on Wednesday.
