Karnataka's star opener Devdutt Padikkal is in the form of his life in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26. The star batter has scored consistently in all the matches he's appeared in VHT so far. He smashed four centuries in the first five matches of the tournament and is scoring runs at an average of over 100.

The Karnataka vs Rajasthan Vijay Hazare Trophy match is being played at Ahmedabad and Devdutt Padikkal stole the show again with his bat while achieving a rare milestone. The left-handed batter's new record has taken the tournament by storm as he has shown why he is considered among the best batsmen in India currently.

Karnataka were asked to bat first, and openers Mayank Agarwal and Devdutt Padikkal continued their purple patch and stitched a 162-run stand for the first wicket. However, Padikkal missed his well-deserved century by just nine runs, which could've been his fifth ton in just six matches in the ongoing tournament.

Despite missing the century, Devdutt Padikkal created a new record in Vijay Hazare Trophy by becoming the first batter to register 600 runs in 3 different editions of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. In the six matches, Padikkal has scored 606 runs so far. Devdutt Padikkal VHT record would reach another height if he manages to take his run tally to the 1000-run mark this season.

Why was Devdutt Padikkal Not Selected in IND vs NZ ODI Series?

Despite Devdutt Padikkal Vijay Hazare Trophy record, he was unable to make it to the national team. He had already scored four centuries when India's squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against New Zealand was announced. However, despite his heroics in VHT, the left-handed batter couldn't find a place in the squad.

Many fans and cricket experts on social media said that he isn't just knocking selectors' door, he's breaking it. Apart from him, Maharashtra skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad was also dropped from the ODI squad. It's worth noting that Gaikwad smashed a century in the recently concluded ODI series against South Africa.
Coming back to Padikkal, he's yet to make his ODI debut for India, but there could be some unavoidable reasons behind his exclusion from the squad. India's squad already has some notable names who can't be dropped, especially when it comes to the batters.
